Hey guys, I am new to the board and have been having problems with my car and just wondering if anybody had any advice. The check engine light on my 04 CTS has just gone off for the 4th time in the last 7 months. The first time i took it in i was told the sensors on bank 2 (i think) had to be replaced, the 2nd time the cat converter had to be replaced, the 3rd time the sensors on bank 1 (i think) had to be replaced, and I just took it in again today to see what the problem is. I was just wondering if any of you guys know what the problem is and what i need to do to stop this from happening over and over again. I really know nothing about cars, so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Without knowing the mileage, I would say that they probably should have replaced the sensors and cats all at the same time.

I just realized I was posting in the ctsv forum instead of the cts, I'm an idiot. Thanks for the replies though. Anyway, I have a cts and I have no clue what codes are popping up, I just see the light come on and I take it in. How many sensors and converters are there, bc I am really starting to get pissed. Is there anything I am doing wrong, should I be using a certain oil or a higher grade of gas? Thanks for the help.
There are: four sensors, two pre-cat and two post-cat.

take your car to autozone and get a free scan of the code. Once you get the code, look it up online for what it means and possible solutions. This will take away much of the mystery and you may be able to try some easy DIY fixes before going back to a mechanic.
I had consistent check engine lights with a toyota when it hit your mileage. 02 sensors went, then the MAF sensor. I replaced the MAF sensor myself (cheap easy DIY job) and reset the code and it was fine for a couple years. Since OBDII is all about emissions, I found that burning high-quality fuel made a big difference. My cat finally started to go, but the check engine light would come on and off. I could keep it off longer by using Shell or other tier one fuels.

Look at your copies of the repair orders, what codes are they finding?
It sounds like you need to take the car to another mechanic to me.
Based on what you have written so far you have a parts hanger working on your car not a technician.

thanks for the help guys. If these jobs can be done by myself, then that's what I'm gonna do. I feel a lot better about my situation now, I just feel like I have been getting screwed over. Also what are tier 1 fuels? Sorry for my ignorance on the subject.
