The sensor has most likely decided to crap out on you. It is built into the coolant overflow tank so you have to replace the entire tank. Or you could try cleaning out the overflow, the sensor could be clogged with crud.

where might the actual tank be located? the overflow tank that is. my car theres a hose at the top of the radiator but its not connected to anything?

What year is it? The tank is usually on (or near) one wheel house or the other. Pretty easy to spot. If it is a Northstar, it is not an "overflow" or recovery tank. It is a (pressurized) surge tank.
