I got a new battery today and my A/C worked for the first time since I've had the car. The A/C has never done anything at all before and when I started the car after replacing the battery the A/C just started blowing. It was hot air but I think if I recharge it it might work.

Are those recharge kits at the auto part store good to use?

Yeah, they are OK if you know what you're doing. DO NOT use any with a sealant in it. Does the system have any refrigerant in it at all? Was it blowing cold? The reason it worked is that by pulling battery power you cleared all the DTC's, one of which was probably low refrigerant. I suspect it will not work for long if it was low.
