I was wondering if any of you have ever replaced an engine on your Catera. I just bought a Catera which was involved in a "light" flood. I am not sure how light it was, but all the lights, and electronic componenets work properly (brakes, dash, cd player, windows, door locks.... etc). The problem is that the oil pan is busted and there are engine parts in the oil pan. This is probably due to the car sucking in water through the air intake. My question is how hard is it to change the engine on a Catera. The Catera that I just bought is a 2000 Sport Catera, and has 58,000 miles on it. I bought it for the price of $3,500, and I found an engine with 25,0000 miles for $900. I am not sure if thats it as far as expences go, but sure hope so. If anybody has any suggestion or has done this in the past... please help me out.
Thanks,
Viktor

i just replaced my e ngine in my catera. I bought a used 3.0 engine that was suppose to 1997 3.0 but was a 1999 3.0 that was converted by swapping intakes and power steering bracket. the labor was $750. he pulled the engine and trans out together. He did it in three days. hell of a job he researched everything. that ecm (engine control module) and bcm (body control module) needs 40 key cycles before everything gets back into your cycle of normal running. jasper offers a 3.2 to put in it 3 years 75,000 mile warranty for $5,500 if your considering keeping it awhile thats your best bet if blue book is worth more than what you put in it its worth it mine was a 997 so it was not worth it and the 3.2 is a better engine. if not ask if the used engine has a warranty and extended warrantys

Question for race734: Having just had my timing belt/tensioner/pulleys replaced the "Check Engine Light" is on. Local Good Wrench couldn't dicipher anything. Reading on a Chrysler site of process of obtining code with the use of key and how to "reset" I am wondering if your comments regarding some 40 cycles ect. refer to such a onboard dignostic system with the Catera
Currently have the battery on the charger(in the car). Friend suggested grounding out the hot battery cable for a period of minutes. Indicated this will free the computer to reset. We will see, but would still want your clarification regarding the subject. AJ-Ketchikan, Alaska

Yes, its the one that was on eBay in Michigan. I talked to the guy who was selling it and he said that he would sell it to me for $3,400 without eBay. But I thought that it would go for cheaper then that, but it went for $3,505, but I still got it. Got it home into my garage, and it actually is a nice vehicle. Has the sport package witht he 17in wheels and all that stuff that come with it. All the electronical components are working properly. I was thinking to put in a new engine myself but probably will just go on an have somebody do it for me. And another thing.... I know that all Cateras have the same V6 engine and I found the same year engine and was wondering if I am going to have any problems with the engine not working, becuase maybe its a little different or are they all the same?

The guy you bought if from said he had another engine for $1000. I was going to buy it but I went to call him but no answer, also college tuition bill was due that week so I had no funds. Beautiful car, wish I would have grabbed it.

Yeah, he had an engine for a $1000 with 50k. I found one for $975 with 28k on it. So about the same price, but with almost half as less miles on it. I also found somebody to do the work for me since, I really cant find anytime for it right now.... so I am hoping to drive it this saturday :yup:
