Car still thinks a trailor is hooked up?

My 2004 Escalade ESV is having a problem with the rear stop lights (lower turn signal stop lights - the high mounted light works no problem). The rear lower stop lights do not get brighter when the brake is applied, although they turn on with the car lights and the turn signals work great. I have had a trailer on the car before and I'm wondering if having a trailer on the car somehow turned off the rear brake lights??? Anyone know?

This is really stumping me. There are three fuses involved with the braking from what I can tell. One is in the fuse panel under the hood (labelled "stop LP") and two are in the left side instrument panel fuse block (labelled "Veh Stop" and "brake"). I tested all of the fuses and they seem OK and tested voltage to each with the brake pressed and each block on the fuse block seems to be getting power. ?!? This is crazy. On the off chance that both bulbs were burned out I took a look at each but they don't LOOK burned out - the bulb for the brake light has two filaments, one "smooth" one on the top and one "twisty" one on the bottom and each look to be good, although I may go get new bulbs just to be on the safe side. Anyone have any other ideas?!

There is a junction plate under the right rear quarter panel check the connections there as it sounds like a bad connection

I'll pull the connections tomorrow Cadillac Man. They all looked good/connected this morning but there is a ton of road crap in there, possible some got into the connection and is messing it up. I hate taking the connectors apart :(. Any advice on how/what to clean them with?
Get some contact cleaner

Remove the connectors one at a time so you don't get them mixed up

I know how you feel on taking connectors apart I am restoring a 79 Chrysler cordoba and I am afraid I might break a harness if I force it to much while working(converting to LEDs)

OK. I figured it out. I feel stupid even posting this. After buying 2 cans of contact cleaner, removing all of the connectors and the mounts and completely cleaning them/replacing them, the lights STILL didn't work. My wonderful wife suggested that I just buy some replacement bulbs for 5 bucks, even though the lamps didn't appear to be broken. Guess what? It worked. I feel very stupid. Thank you all for your help, I am hanging up my tool kit for the day after that one!
