I'm looking to replace the reciever and speakers in my '91 Sedan Deville. On Crutchfield.com they told me the speaker sizes were 4x6 in the front, 5 1/4 on the sides and 6x9 in back. Is this correct? What's the best way to wire up the new system? Should I get an amp for the back speakers and run the other four out of my reciever? Any advice or tips would be appreciated. :worship:

Thanks,
Chris

Chris,
First off NEVER buy anything from Crutchfield unless you just used them for research for speaker sizes.
Second for your system you need to think about a lot of things before upgrading.
Money is a big factor.
It determines which quality speakers you get front and back and the features on your headunit.
My recomendation is to first get the headunit and speakers and see if you like what you hear from that set up. I don't know how much you acually listen to the radio and how much you car about how load it is. For amping the speakers I would find one that would handle both sets of the speakers b/c most headunits only put out 50 to 55 on the high end and the speakers are normally at 100+.
Let me know the cash flow and i can give you my 2 cents and others will chyme in if they agree.

why dont you ever buy from crutchfield? I do all the time.

The biggest thing I like about them is the yhave wiring harnesses for every car and mounting kits that most stores dont cary.

But for speakers the have speaker harnesses so you dont have to hack up your wiring. That way if you wanna sell the car some day and want your speakers you just unplug them and plu the stock ones back in.

Ive had nothing but GOOD luck with crutchfield.

I understand that there is nothing wrong with crutchfield. But they OVERCHARGE for everything. You can go to a store or shop else were online to find a better price then they give you.
Check this out
Pioneer DEH-7500MP
crutchfield - 349.99
carstereoworld.com 268.99

that is why i never buy from them.
About the hacking of your original speaker wire you should never do that. RUN a new wire and keep the existing one there and it never has to be cut. It saves your car for resale value.

Quite the price difference, makes one wonder why? Did you happen to see or know that what you are getting from carstereoworld.com may be a refurbished unit ?

Anyway back on to the subject...AKPsiMC03, If you have the money, which is always a factor. and depending what kind of system you are looking for of course, you could replace all speakers as you suggested, and get a 4 channel amp that can run them all...You have nothing a good quality (Alpine, Fosgate) 4 channel amp can't handle, plus it makes it easy to upgrade later on if you wanted..

The first and main factor in any good system is the head unit.. so pick that carefully and understand all that you want, and may want to do..That way when it is time to upgrade to better, more or even adding a sub to it all,, the deck will not even be an issue.

Good Luck with it all and hope it sounds well

Only reason that I shop at crutchfield, is for peace of mind. They offer that support, ship quickly and they are well known enough, but it seems that they still help out their customers. That is the reason that I shop at newegg.com also for computer equipment. Can't put a price on "peace of mind"...

I agree. I just recently ordered from Crutchfield for an antenna and Stereo, and they sent all of the extras that I needed (harness, wire harness, antenna connections, installation instructions) for free. And it was here in 3 days, with free shipping.
