Badges have always been and will always be a vanity thing. The only real function may be to help law enforcement and witnesses identify what car was seen leaving the scene. But for parking enforcement, they just scan the VIN instead.

Imagine if all cars were unbranded and the same color.

Wait 'till we get to the (Ford) Pinto.

In the late 50's I worked part-time at a repair shop that was also a Datsun (later became Nissan) dealer. True POS in every sense of the phrase.
