Last night after putting the new Alt and Battery in, the car began surging while sitting at a stop sign and after parked. It seemed to only happen after warming up. I did a search and tryed the EGR, which made the car almost cut off, so I think thats fine. I pulled the air cleaner off and it looks like the injectors are working fine. I disconnected the map(?) and it immediately shut the engine down, I assume thats supposed to happen.

What else should I check? I just had the cat conv replaced about 2 months ago and the car flew through emissions. It seems that I've only been having this problem since it started getting cold.

Help me out guys, this car was great during the summer, but now it's starting to cost too much money to keep.

where are you located? hold off and warmer on CCP and let me know the codes it tells you on the fuel guage... then hit AUTO to get out, (or turn key off) engine does NOT need to be running while doing this, but makes no diffrence. ISC controller can do that, but it rely's on other sensors to work correctly. the engine on that car is rather good. not many ghost problems unless it was beat senseless..

I'm located in Baltimore, MD. The car wasn't beat on, it was the fabled little old man car.... 90 yr old man, the a 60 odd yr old man, then me (28) and I haven't been doing anything but driving back and forth to work. the car presently has close to 153k miles on it.

I did the off/warmer to get the codes and I got a code of E52 and then it said .7.0

Thanks for any help you can give.

E52 is memory prom reset (basically, the computer knows the power was reset.) you can safely clear that code if you wish, it makes no diffrence if it's in there or not, unless you have power issues. so, if by surging, you mean the RPM increased, then i would initially suspect the ISC controller motor. it's hard for me to describe diagnosing it directly, but there are a number of things you could do. on mine, i would start the car, and then manually lift up the throttle lever to make the ISC automatically back up so to speak. then when it was clear of possibly touching the throttle lever, i would disconnet the wiring harness (NOTE! THIS WILL SET A SERVICE SOON or SERvICE NOW MESSAGE ON YOUR DASH< NO WORRIES) and then let go of the gas. the car MAY stall out, no worries. if it does, start it up while LIGHTLY giving it gas, then feather the pedal to see what happens, it should start with some coordination. drive the car around the block try to reproduce the problem. if the same surge is noted, its not the isc. if youcant seem to get the surge to happen, its most likely a failing or soon to fail ISC. it happens. the isc is the little screw motor thingy that will retract when you give it gas. and it will move back up to control idle when your not touching the gas petal. (its what makes you feel the gas petal move up slowly when your cruzin on the highway and let off the gas.)
