Hello everyone,

New here and just put down a deposit on a CT5-V Blackwing, hoping my order will eventually be accepted. I am apparently 3rd or 4th in line for an allocation at this dealer, who is optimistic I will be able to get my car in 5-6 months. I called around and this would have been my placement at most GTA dealers, with the exception being one where I would have been 7th loool.

I was told each Canadian dealer got a single MY2022 allocation initially and now are hoping for more allocations but are unsure how many they'll get for this year or next.

Does anyone have any insight on what the status is on Canadain BW orders? Has anyone ordered in the past few months and actually received an allocation?

Thank you,
NewD

I have asked a number of dealers and have inquired with Cadillac Canada and Cadillac US. Dealers don't seem to know much. I am #7 at one dealership and #2 at another. The one I am #2 at told me they are getting 1, so unless there is a 2023 Blackwing, I am probably SOL. Cadillac Canada just keeps telling me to talk to my dealer. Cadillac US says they have no info at this time as to whether there will be a 2023 MY.

What dealership? I'd be surprised if you can get a car in 5-6 months at 3-4 in line, that would mean you'd need an allocation in the next 1-2 months.

I was number 3 at my dealer in London, Ontario back in June and they received one of the first 250 so I am now number 2 and have it in writing.

At this point nobody can tell you the allocations or wait times. All you can gauge is prior allocation history of the CTS-V to give an indication of how many Blackwings they get a year but even thats two years outdated and with all these supply issues it gets messy.

Either way I'd be very very surprised if your dealer can secure another 3-4 allocations to get to your turn in line and deliver a car in 5-6 months, in Canada anyway.

Are you with Finch? Let me know if you decide you don't want one any more. I'd be happy to take your allocation :D

I was actually excited to get the new M3 and when this came out it took me two weeks to get over my brand snobbery and accept that this is a much more special car, so I arrived late to the game as well. Turns out I'm third in line. I'm not even dreaming of a '22, just hoping I get a '23 or eeeven '24 but it would suck to completely miss the boat.

Have you heard confirmation of a 2023 model? I can't find any info on this.

Also, not all dealers are getting a Blackwing. I tried a smaller dealership and they are not getting any. I think allocation is based on how many previous V-models they sold previously

No confirmation of 2023 model but I don't see why they wouldn't offer one, having already made the R&D/capital investment and probably not wanting to piss off hundreds of potential buyers who are willing to spend this much money on a car.

I've been told by 4 different dealers that every Canadian dealership got one 2022 allocation. I'm not sure whther that means everyone who got one, got just one, and others got none. I spec'd mine without the CF packages, which I hope will speed things along.

One dealer told me they didn't know whether previous V sales factored into the allocation decisions but did say that dealers are more likely to be given allocations if they have a signed sales contract with deposit as that is a guaranteed sale. Idk what to believe...

Dealerships who received an allocation are ones who have sold previous V vehicles. My local dealer sells a limit number of Caddys, they did not receive one.

If they've received a decent number of V series CT5s (example 5) a year then will probably get an allocation. Basically any large dealer received an allocation, smaller ones did not, at least for the initial 250.

No confirmation but I'd be very surprised if 2022 was the only model year for these cars, it doesn't make sense. Most likely the Blackwings will continue for the rest of the CT5/4 generation into 2024 at the worst and potentially 2025-26.

If you are 3-4 in line you will get a car, assuming your dealer has received at least one allocation already, it will just be a 2023-24 model year.

Hello fellow Canadians,

I'm wondering if you guys could shed some light on how the process works for a blackwing order. How much of a deposit is fair?

And for those of you that are in line at 2 dealerships, arent you on the hook to purchase both cars when it becomes available?

Hello!

I will tell you what my experience has been and what I've been tld by the 7 or 8 dealers I've spoken to.

1. The process is that you call dealers and tell them you would like to get in line for a CT5 BW, and they will tell you whether they are accepting deposits to keep your place in line or not. The normal deposit amount is $1000, some dealers want more. It is fully refundable at any point before the build is accepted by the factory (just make sure you put this in writing if you sign a contract). Some dealers are not even accepting deposits and will sell the car only once it becomes available.

2. You are not obligated to complete the transaction when the car is delivered but you may lose your deposit. One dealer told me they will keep my deposit if I do not buy the car. Most have said they will refund it to me anyway since they won't have a hard time selling the car even if I back out. Caveat being if I have a weird unpopular build that could be hard to sell.

Hope this helps, I'm in line at 3 dealers and am looking to get in line at a fourth soon.

Thanks so much for the response NewD! This helps me understand what's normal for this transaction.

I've been reading that many dealers in the US are charging above msrp.

What has your experience been with the dealers you have talked to? Are they willing to stick to a price agreed upon or is pricing determined at time of delivery?

Thanks again for everyone's input.

There seems to be unanimous agreement not to charge over MSRP in Canada, at least among the dalers I've spoken to. One dealer described it as a "cultural difference" betweent he US and Canada. Another dealer stated that charging above MSRP would erode consumer goodwill towards dealers and the brand and this is not worth the extra few k above MSRP.

I've only called one dealership so far and they've told me orders are into the 2024 model year but they aren't taking deposits for that. I'll have to make more calls. I'm not a big fan on the waiting game but that's just what it is with the Blackwing!

That's a huge "cultural difference" in my opinion but it's just good to know what can be expected.

I appreciate the information you've shared!

I have deposits at two dealerships here in the Lower Mainland of BC. Both have sold numerous V cars in the past. Both have CT5 and CT5-V cars in stock. At my nearest dealership, I am #2 in line for a CT5-V BW. At the other dealership, which is larger and part of a multi dealership chain, I am pretty low in line too (below #5 I think). I gave deposits to both ($500 to the first, and $1000 to the second, refundable until the order is confirmed). None of the dealerships I went to (four in total) could promise a BW, and none knew how many BW cars they will get (if any at all).

Neither stated there will be any markups (and the second dealership in fact wrote on the deposit "MSRP plus tax and doc fee [stated amount]". One dealership admitted they have deposits for ten (yes 10!) BW cars. I didn't bother with them because I highly doubt they will be getting ten cars, and I think they are only wasting people's time. I also didn't bother with the fourth and last dealership, because they are the smallest of the four, and admitted they were only taking deposits, and hoping for an allocation, one day.

In terms of BW production, I believe (based on what I have read) Cadillac plans to build up to 3000 BW cars per year, and they have never said "until model year X, which is the end." BW cars in Canada will be very low in number, below the Corvette numbers, which are already very small. I will be happy with a 2023 model or even a 2024, I am happy to wait as long as I finally get my car. In fact, I hope it is a later model car, because I'm hoping for a dark grey to be added to the colour choices (I'd like something like Storm Grey, which was used on various GM cars up to 2005).
