What is your budget for this? Do you want something that is going to just drop in or are you looking to put a little more work into it for something custom? You are also going to need at least one amplifier for the subwoofer, and another one for the front stage would be best.

Subwoofers, what are your goals? Do you want something that is just flat out loud, quality, what? *Don't say, sound flat out loud, and high quality. Doesn't exist*

Here are some quality subwoofer manufactures
Stereo Integrity
Fi
Sound Solutions Audio (SSA)
Sound Splinter
Mach 5 Audio
Incriminator Audio
etc, etc

What are you going to be using the stereo for.....daily listening pleasure or competitions, what are you listening to..FM, CD, Satellite, mp3(lower or high quality), do you have any sound deadening in your car, how much are you wanting to spend and how good are you at installing and making custom mounting plates for a speaker size smaller than your factory size.

Well as far as wire gauge as long as you're not throwing too many watts at them 12 or 14 should be alright....just remember that you're going to get what you pay for so if you're buying the cheapest stuff on the shelf there is a reason its cheaper. I'm not saying to buy the most expensive stuff as there is a lot of marketing hype involved, but there will be a performance difference from the cheapest to the midrange.

Far as sound deadening check out secondskinaudio.com, one of the leaders in audio sound deadening, now warning they're not cheap, but they've got good information on their site as well as the standard sales pitch, but it'll at least give you a better idea of whats out there....a quick google search should pull up other companies with similar offerings.
