Or.. is it recommended to do springs? rods? valves? retainers? rockers? to aid with the CAM.. so on.. so forth.

I'm ready to pounce on a CAM and Heads but wanted to hear everyone's recommendations....

I was thinking of Lunati, MTI, Comp Cams....any other reputable manufacturer?

If you are going to do heads, you will be replacing the valves, springs, retainers and rockers. Bottom end mods are not necessary though. Or by rods do you mean push rods, not connecting rods? I am thinking about just doing a cam, valve springs and rockers over the winter. I think the LS6 heads are pretty good to begin with and just doing a CAM and springs would be pretty cheap and probably good for 20 - 40 Hp depending on other mods a tune.

Then I may take Jamie's advice and get the NOS.

I haven't done the research on the different cams out there yet. I will be looking for something pretty big. I don't mind a rough idle :)

$1300.00 seems like a lot of money for a cam. I remember when I put a cam in my 1979 camaro. I think I paid $150.00 for it. Although I suppose I probably paid around the same for the Black Jack headers and I just paid $1300.00 for a set of B&B headers. How things change. Also 70 rwhp sounds like a stretch.

And my Camaro was as fast as the V! Wasn't nearly as nice though...

Internals are generally "engine block" internals.

That said....unless you go with a LARGE cam(which I would) you don't need to change springs.

But, you should go with a larger cam,...so you should go with a heavy duty set of springs, for example, mine are DUAL valve springs,...which are rated for up to 650 lift(my lift now is .595 and 598) which is pretty radical. You WILL need to change pushrods,...retainers, etc etc.

If you are ordering from someone like LG motorsports, who is badass, or MTI, who is BADASS,...just tell them you want a complete heads and cam package,...and you will recieve everything you need.

If you call MTI,...talk to Jeff.

If you do call them, let me know,...

I ran a G5X3 114LSA set-up in my 04 GTO w/ Stock Z06 #243 Unported Heads. Through 100% stock exhaust from manifolds to tips it put down 369/343. It truthfully felt lazy off the line.

Next I installed Stainless Works headers and hi-flow cats. :worship:The car pulled like a train!!!

If you want lope, shake, and send bystanders to :hide: when you roll up... the X3 is for you.

...But don't even think about it without headers.
