The Catera was a huge chance in my opinion, it was one of the first Y2k aerodynamic body styles I've witnessed with Cadillac, it also appealed to a lot of drivers. A big fan of the eldorado although the Catera brought swag to the young adults of the early 2000

The problem, GM did destroy it's reputation with their own hands, by messing with power train with no valid reason. It's very popular car in EU while America thinks it's the worst caddy ever built. In EU they have nearly 10 engines to choose from , couple diesels and manual tranny, with better handling and limited slip Diff for police versions, and wagon body. Pretty obvious why gm constantly near the bankruptcy with their irrational management

Curious as to what Cadillac(s) you own and drive? Y2K? you realize that the Catera debuted in 1996?

The Catera was way better than the ill-conceived Cimmeron, a tarted up Chevy Cavalier.

Dealers didn’t know and mostly didn’t want a small rebadged German Opal Omaga. Cadillac at that time was stodgy, and preferred overstuffed seats, vinyl tops and opera windows. The Catera just didn’t fit in.

but Cadillac was trying to change their image and appeal to a younger audience...remember the Caddy that Zigs???...Cindy Crawford?...that duck Ziggy?...🤣

an American Opel Omega wasn't the worst choice Cadillac could have made...

The Catera was the forerunner to the CTS, and that model has turned out to give Cadillac that sporty image it needed to appeal to younger buyers. I read somewhere (maybe on this forum) that CTS stood for "Catera Touring Sedan"

I was stationed in Germany in the 80s-90s and really appreciated the many driver’s cars not available in the states.

Would have gone for a manual Catera when we moved back, but the opportunity never lined up. So many nice cars I never got to enjoy…
