Hello everybody,

I want to introduce myself as I am for the first time here. My name is Tomasz and I came from Poland. The main reason of being here is to ask you for some advice as you are
familiar with Cadillac. My son (16 years old) is a fan of V8 American automobiles and he wants to buy some used (a limited amount of money) limousine in good shape.

The choice is Cadillac De Ville.

Below are two cars which have been chosen. They stay in Poland.

This is '99, imported from the States 2 years ago. It is in flowers because of being carrying a wedding couple.

The second one '98, was imported from the USA in 2008 as well, and it is written that has been staying from that time at the Opel Dealer as an attraction.

Could you assess these, more or less - this is the first request.

Could you give some advice concerning inspection at the place - - what are the most important things to check as for the engine, gear box and are typical for the model - -
the second request.

Another words, I want to avoid buying De Ville with typical problems.

Thank you and looking forward for your tips.

Greetings, Tomasz

Hard to advise from here, but be aware that the '99 has the worst record for HG failure, hollowed by the 98. Unless they have had the HG's replaced, it can be a bigger gamble than most used cars.

GM lengthened the head bolts in 2000 and went to a coarser thread pitch in '04. You'll greatly improve your odds with a 2000 and even more so with an '04+.

Hmm. It looks like a serious problem.

Unfortunately, US car services here are not at every corner. Local mechanics know not much about it. The nearest - speciallized in Cadillac - is 150 km from my place,
Warsaw or Cracow.

But, what would you say abou this one.

Thats Seville '96, but well maintened - - imported from Japan with the milage certificate - - 45 kkm on it.

Has the same engine ? Is there the same possible problem with the head ?

Thanks for your tips.
