my first thread went bye bye :( took too long to write it i guess ;)

Okay guys, I am prolly gonna get flamed. But I wanna drop a Northstar with a 4t80 into a 94 Cutlass coupe. Any axle ideas? I am pretty sure it will fit in the engine bay. What Northstar do I need for performance? VVT worth it? I am gonna be running the Holley computer CHRF sells (and eventuually their cams etc.) The VVT engine would rock is it like a VTEC motor in that it has one wire to control the swapover or is it continuous variable? I dont have any aspirations of manual trannys and know this is gonna be a hell of a lot of work, but I think it would be fun to own a nice 94 442 who could wear those emblems with authority ;)

The VVT depends on your budget and availability. If you can find one and afford it, then by all means. I have never seen one, but am assuming it is continuously variable and does not require any wires. My Guess would be that it operates from oil pressure.

If I were going to make the swap, I would weld the entire Cadillac subframe; including the front suspension, brakes, struts, steering, wheels, transmission, engine, and all the components. I would also attempt to fit the largest capacity radiator possible.

Also, Why not just use the whole Northstar Engine including the computer? If you have the VVT then you will have more than 300 HP and more than 300 ft lb of torque.

I was gonna use the entire Caddy engine/trans combo, and possibly start with the Caddy ECM. I think placing the Northstar on my current cradle would be best and preserve the original suspension geometry. Of course, those guys with Northstar Fieros must do something for axles, so maybe that is a clue.

So the VVT mechanism allows no tunability? I couldn't alter how much or where it changes timing at? :( The reason behind the ecm from CHRF is tunability especially with the possibility of a cam change on a non VVT Northstar.
