Bulb Removal/Installation From Engine Bay

Well, not sure if anyone has posted or "discovered" this yet, but it is possible (although challenging) to access and change the headlight bulbs without removing the bumper. You can accomplish this from the engine bay. After calling my local Cadillac dealer to schedule a simple bulb replacement and hearing the cost of the labor, I broke out the tool box and stretched my forearm muscles, as they were DEFINITELY needed for the task lol. All one must do is remove the three fastners securing the fuse box on the passenger side. You may have to disconnect a few cables depending on the size of your arm. Remove the twist cover and you'll see the bulb. The angle that one must work with is tricky, but your bulbs will twist out. For the driver side, you must remove the airfilter box/assembly (3 bolts) and the plastic covering (2 plastic fasteners) in front of the headlight assembly. Remove the twist cover and walla. It took me about 30 minutes total time from start to finish because my old bulbs took forever to budge, but I eventually got em out. Reverse the process and you're done. Also, this was a regular bulb replacement - I haven't upgraded to HIDs as of yet, so if anyone was wondering if 90 degree angle 9006 bulbs will fit the CTS - yes they will. I will do the HID upgrade in Jul, so if anyone has a quality, I stress "QUALITY", HID kits they would recommend I install, I'm all ears. 8000k 55w for fogs and lows is what I'm looking at. Till then!!!

I did my HID conversion and fogs without removing the bumper as well. I put a white (not blue) LED in the triangle and did the 6000k in the low beam and the Fogs. All three match perfect. Click on my photo album to see how it turned out.
Your 6000k kit(s) looks really crisp, not too blue. Which kit did you use? I got my eyes on Mobile HID.
There is a supporting vender that we should try to use first, Sharp HIP, see the ad on the right side of the screen. When I installed them, I didn't know that, I went on e-bay and found the cheapest kit I could find, HID-System Inc. and they've been running well with no problems. I run the fogs day and night since I disabled the DRLs.
There are some in my photo album already, but here is another one. A couple months ago, I added the LED light bar below the headlights.

People are so overwhelmed by the thought of removing the front bumper to access the headlights. it's so easy, really.
Some pictures would awesome!!!!!!
what I meant by that is pictures of the hood and where to remove.
I got all HIDs my self too.

Sammy, that's crazy! I had the same idea for an LED light bar below my headlights, but I gave up on it because I couldn't find a light bar that would fit flush and not look too aftermarket. I do have to ask which one did you use? My plans were to run an LED light bar tapped into my DRL harness (switch capability of course on the knee bolster). Where did you get yours? THX.
I got the LEDs from Oznium.com. (9.5" long) At first, I didn't like the unfinished look between the bumper and the light assembly, so I cut a peice of 1/4 plexiglas to the shape of the head light and glued the LEDs to the plexiglass. My goal was to get them like the Audi DRL's but they are not bright enough. They look fine at night or on a cloudy day, but in sunlight, they don't cut it. Audi has a nice set-up.

Here is the link with some pictures of how I did it:

^^^ Sammy, try Philips Lumileds. Expensive, but very bright. Ive been thinking about doing something similar, but in the fogs. Use a 50mm preojector for the fogs, with an led strip underneath.... Innovative work, man!

Sammy, what the hell is that chrome doing on your sport grille?

Not overwhelmed. Being an ex-Air Force mechanic where timeliness of a repair is crucial, I couldn't help but look for a more efficient manner!
Sorry man, I live in the ghetto, we have to have a lot of chrome. I'm thinking about getting some wide white walls and spinners as well. :~) joking...

By the way, if you remove the bumper, have two people there. If it flexes to much, you'll get paint cracks.

haha, im just not a chrome fan and I have to bust balls here and there ;)

As for having 2 people to remove the bumper, if you can get another person, thats great, but I have removed mine about 4 times and did it alone every time with out any problems. It is possible to do. I guess me being 6'1 and having a big wing span helps too. :histeric:

Someone help! Where is the third fastener?

You have to open the fuse box, and there is a nut/bolt down inside there. It isnt that easy to get it back on, I got lucky and did it in one shot tho the last time I changed a bulb.
