Hi everyone. I've been reading these forums for several years now, but just now decided to register. Last year I bought a 1987 Brougham with a rare paint/interior combination (black exterior, white leather interior). I've had few problems with it, except that the exterior window sweep on the front doors is dry and cracked. Over the last month I've been looking for the parts at local part shops, junkyards, and online, but haven't been able to find em, and it's been driving me crazy, because I can't drive the car in the rain. :bonkers:

The early 80s Buick Electra and Olds 98 Rency appear to have the same dimensions for the window sweep, and I have seen the parts for them online, although I'm not 100% sure that the door dimensions are the same. Can anyone here confirm whether they are or not? Have any of you guys had to deal with this issue and found your parts elsewhere?

P.S. I live in Ontario, Canada, and due to the weather junkyard cars usually aren't in as pristine condition as I've seen in some of your guys' postings of junkyard adventures.

Black and white sounds divine! :) Post a picture of your car for us to see. What is a sweep? The rubber gasket around the door?

Thanks Bro-Ham. :)

Here are some pics:

The window sweep is basically the rubber part coming up from inside the door and touching the window at a slight angle to prevent water entering the inside of the door. A few parts stores around here have erroneously called it weatherstripping, and I do see that term come up sometimes in my searches, but it isn't exactly what I'm looking for. Here is a pic showing the cracked window sweep:

The window sweeps are the hardest part to find. They dont make them anymore and it seems nobody has good ones anymore. Find the best used ones you can find and keep them conditioned. Also make sure the drain holes at the bottom of your door are not clogged. Bro-Ham, he's talking about the long rubber(or whatever) pieces at the top of the door panel that "sweep" the window as its rolled up and down. Usually cracked and brittle.

While I would have to take my door panels off and see, I would not imagine that it would be that difficult to fabricate a set of sweeps.

Talk to kakalak over at layitlow, his signature says he sells universal inner and outer door sweeps for cadillacs.

Thanks for the advice guys. Bro-Ham, I tried posting a few pics, including one of the cracked ws, but was told that a mod has to approve the post first or something.

csbuckn, I'll probably end up trying to buy em from kakalak from layitlow. And I'll be sure to keep em conditioned, now that I realize how rare they are. One of the things I had really liked about this car was how plentiful, cheap, and straight-forward most parts were. I guess this is one exception. ;)

WOW now that the pictures were approved/posted... holy crap. What a gorgeous car! How many miles are on it? Those seats look barely used.

Sweet color combo too, no less. :)

Ain't she a pretty Lass. I may have to come visit "Canadia" more often if there's cars like the ones I keep seeing on here rolling around that land.

I bought w/sweeps for my Lincoln, from a co. in Fla. I will try and post the name, when I return home.

J. C. Whitney .com has a selection of sweeps. YOU might have to figure out which ones work. They lis diagrams and deminsions.

87 Brougham, where in Ontario do you live?

I just bought a '90 Brougham from Simon's Caddy Shack. It came with a bunch of parts too, including a couple new in the package sweeps!

I have had a few of these cars over the years, and these sweeps are often cracked. My parents have an '82 Fleetwood where the sweeps have completely gone. I have been trying to locate good ones for some time, but so far no luck.

I do wonder if similar Buick and Olds C-body cars are the same part.

BTW, come and visit this new board for Ontario Cadillac guys..

The previous owner of my caddy gave me all the window sweeps that I need for all the windows, I am not sure where he got them. When I get home I will look on the box because he had them shipped from some where and they are still in the original box.

I checked JC WHITNEY----nothing came up for "window sweeps" for my '78 Deville-----maybe they go by another part name there.

I bought one from Florida when I was there
Now I need to get more for the other doors

The place I got mine was Convertible Top Specialists (website is topsdown)
The ones for my 76 deville weren't listed on their site but they had them on ebay after I asked them they linked me to them

Theres another place called Rubbertherightway
I got a catalogue off them too... and if I could find it I'd tell you if they do them too.. also an ebay seller

I haven't been here long enough to post direct links... but you should be able to get there knowing the website name... just add your own 3 w's
