Looking for an easier way.....The bolt that holds the idle pulley to engine has snapped or broke its a clean break straight down even with the engine block so I cant grasp it with anything I cant fit a drill down there. I cant get a Right angle drill in the area either. does anyone know how I can remove this bolt in such a tight space? Any help is greatly appreciated. Heres a pic if u can tell what I m talkin about

Ouch... I'm not exactly sure how bad your situation is. I have had some pretty nasty bolts shear off to the point that I couldn't slip a drill/easyout in. In that rare case, I've taken a spare bolt/nut, placed it up to the broken bolt and taken a very small MIG welder with a small gun to weld the spare bolt/nut to the broken bolt. Then you use a wrench to turn out the old bolt I've had to use a small mechanic's mirror to guide the MIG wire in. You have to be a pretty damn good welder, though to not weld your broken bolt to the inside of the thread.

Pretty extreme, and it may not work in your situation.

Been 34 yrs since I did something like that. Then I broke the easy out too. That was on top of engine--thermostat.

There is a tech with 'will' as part of his name on avatar. He is good with advice. Some of the moderators are also good mechanics.

Post again in a day or two if no response. Might want to post in technical section too.

What I found that works decently:

Get a right angle micro die grinder. (A Dremmel tool), and a diamond straight bit for it. Drill a hole through the broken bolt. Now, get a LHT (Left hand thread) metal screw, self tapping works if you can fit some sort of driver drill in there, or just standard threads, and run that in there.

What happens is this: THe left hand thread screw will go down into the hole, and once it's fully in, continuing to turn it will get it to bite into the metal, and turn the fragmented bolt out. Just make SURE you use a metal screw, not a wood or sheet metal, and a LHT one.

well, you know how the law works.
If someone were to steal that car (that you left running) and kill someone with those bad brakes (which you knew about), you would be responsible. LOL!

What do you mean by "I can get the brakes back tight"? Front or rear?
