Broke my rear cv joint on the driveshaft

The good news is it's not the rear diff. Has anyone else broken one of these? Can I buy the cv joint by itself without buying a new driveshaft?

Nope, it comes as part of the driveshaft and is not serviceable. Any idea how it broke?
I may have a spare driveshaft... I was keeping it for a spare for when I broke mine.... I suppose I could sell it if you run stuck, and the price is right. I think they are like 1k from the stealership.

It's crap that you can't buy these separately it comes right off the driveshaft except the rubber boot will be a PITA to fit on. I'm going to try calling BMR tomorrow they have a viper cv joint that looks identical. I can't believe I'm the only person that has broken one of these wtf. I was on track Saturday at Putnam Park and it grenaded I'm just glad it's not the rear diff. I'm going to clean it up tomorrow and see if I can figure out who makes it so I can call them direct if BMR doesn't come through.

I got it off and taken apart tonight with the help of a friend - the basket exploded. I suppose it would be re-buildable but I'd prefer to have a new one or an upgraded one. On the other hand I'd rather replace ten of these than one rear diff lol. :D
I broke on as well along with it went the diff, I know a guy that will make one for you. check out my thread http://www.cadillacforums.com/forums/cadillac-cts-v-series-forum-2004/167421-testing-new-fix-wheelhop-custom-axles.html Same guy that made my axles is duplicating the $1k drive shaft using better lighter materials which will be way stronger as well as much cheaper.
So when the cv joint on the rear of the driveshaft breaks everyone considers that a broken driveshaft? BS I'm replacing the cv joint and I'll posting pictures and the source for the cv joint when I find it... Or I'll start a CTS-V cv joint manufacturing company and become a vendor lol. It can't be that hard to figure out the manufacturer and replace the cv joint WTF?
found the manufacturer today ...
and?
any progress is good progress right? I'm calling tomorrow to see if they supply these to anyone besides gm
well not unless I'm happy! lol keep us updated. I'm sure people will benefit from this in the future. Keep up the good work!
I had a motor mount completely seperate. When the dealer fixed that I had a bad vibration at about 1500 RPM in all gears. Turns out it was the rear CV Joint. They had to put in a new driveline....

Mine went bad when the 6 bolts backed out at V-Day II. Did you check those to see if they are tight?
i will go check them right now... its fckin weird it goes away when you push in the clutch or when you speed up..

I have one that the CV joint is good on, but the back CV boot has a rip in it. Let me know if you want it.

The the OP, try Cleveland Pick A Part. That's where I got my replacement. Ya I learned like you that the driveshaft isn't serviceable too....I was PISSED! $1200 from the stealership, I think it was $200 from CPA.
1200 for one, if it were me i'd be throwing an extra couple hundred and get the new dss axles.

:)
