Brightness Levels of Illuminated Controls

Is it possible to swap the stock bulbs used to illuminate many of the controls (pw/pl/pm switches, etc.) to brighter bulbs? The controls on my '01 Cat are not very bright, even when the dimmer control is turned all the way up. Has anyone replaced these bulbs, and if so, with what? Any dangers?

I have seen on some of the european sites they are replacing the bulbs with leds, some of diffrent color. Maybe this will work for you.
