Hi, folks,
05 Deville base w/ digital instruments. Is there any way to make them brighter? They're almost impossible to see in the daytime.

two things come to mind. Is the little knob near headlight switch turned down? Or, are your headlights (not the DRLs) coming on in daylight, which would automatically dim the dash.

Maybe something with either the Twilight Sentinel or the ambient light sensor.

Turn OFF the Sentinel ?

Turn OFF the Sentinel ?
I just went thru this about 6 months ago although I have the analog dash. Most likely the ambient light sensor is bad causing his lights to stay on all the time which in the daytime will cause the dash to be dim. That was my case. However in most cases the only thing that causes your dash to be dim in the daytime is for some reason, yes your lights are on.

Only the DRLs are on during daylight hours. Dimmer knob is at max. Dash doesn't indicate the lights are on. I do use the Sentinel, I'll have to turn it off next trip out and see if that helps.
Thanks all.

Well, I turned the Sentinel off ant it didn't seem to make the dash lights any brighter during the day. Are there any components on the instrument cluster that might slowly go out that could be replaced?

If equipped make sure that the Rainsense [rain sensing wipers] have not been inadvertently left on.

If my old rig has DLR I don't know about it, and always just drive with the parking lights, which really dims the dash. So, I'm in for anyone happening by with this same problem who has done the homework to find that perfect set of LEDS with more light (lumens? watts?) to make things brighter for us 50+ (ok 60+) crowd. And that does not require stupid added resistors, and with more than a 3-month lifespan. I know, that's expecting a lot but I can hope.

You can control rainsense wipers?
Harry, I have a 2005 DTS this is from the owners manual
From section 3 page 10

The Rainsense™ II system can be activated by turning
the wiper band to one of the five sensitivity levels
indicated on the wiper stalk. The position closest to OFF
is the lowest sensitivity setting, level one. This allows
more rain or snow to collect on the windshield between
wipes. Turning the wiper band away from you to
higher sensitivity levels increases the sensitivity of the
system and frequency of wipes. The highest sensitivity
setting, level five is closest to LO. A single wipe will
occur each time you turn the wiper stalk to a higher
sensitivity level to indicate that the sensitivity level has
been increased.

======================
YES -
if the wipers are FULLY turned off -
the rainsense is off -
and the automatic headlights are off -
daylight running lights are on -

if the wipers are turned to the first position -
the rainsense system is activated -
the automatic headlights are on -
