brakes = shakes

when driving the highway ive noticed if i need to apply an braking that sometimes i get a shake not a violent shake but very minor shake. seems like fornt end as well. i will say that i have had to work on this car very much in the last month. it sat around and did like 3500 miles in 6 years so no real driving now its become my daily driver and seems i have to always do something with it. guessing im gonna replace pads and rotor in fron and see if this does the trick? no noises just very minor shaking.

I replaced the rotors a few times, finally bit the bullet and replaced the calipers and rotors together, all better!
Probably just need to resurface the rotors. A light skim cut should do it.
when I had mine cut, they warped again in a couple months. replaced, and within 6 months they warped again. Decided it had to be a hanging caliper, if not multiple with 120k miles, replaced all 4 calipers and rotors, no problems since. Now, I need to replace the exhaust.
I have the same problem only i get a pretty bad shake, i thought it was the tie rod ends, which was some of the problem, they were wore out and loose, but it still does the shaking. I put new brake pads and it helped a little. I do feel the warp in the rotors when i am rolling real slow while applying the brakes, i can feel the car lurching. Would this really cause the car to shake badly like this? Its really embarassing, no Cadillac should ride like this. My only problem is that I have read through a few different posts and it seems that some have had to change calipers and everything to get rid of this shaking. I know I have had to replace a new set of tires because it gave them a flat spot on each tire from the shaking. Im just trying to avoid spending a large amount of money....but thats dumb....I own a Cadillac...and proud of it!!!
Either pad deposits or a warped rotor can have a slight shake or one that will rattle your teeth.

If your rotors are original and have not been previously ground (trued up) then it's pretty cheap to have a shop take a slight cut on each one. IF the rotors are so warped or grooved that a cleanup cut will remove too much material, then the rotors are junk because there's a definite thickness limit - too thin and out they go.

Pad deposits ???? If you come to a panic stop or a long, slow braking stop several times from high speeds the pads/rotors get impressively hot. If you hold your foot on the brake at the end of such a stop, the pad presses in one spot on the rotor and transfers gas and resins to the hot rotor surface which forms a "sticky" spot with the resulting grab on subsequent braking. It takes a while for that spot to grind off again.
Lightly press your emergency brake while you are moving (like 30 or so). If the shake is still there it is the rear brakes. If not, it is the front. I just replaced my front and rear pads and rotors and my car stops as smooth as glass now. It is the rotor however and this will need to be replaced. I would not reccomend having it turned. They are not that expensive to buy for something that will last 50k-100k miles or more.
Same thing here, shakes bad durring breaking. I was wondering if it was safe to try the parking brake while driving, I suspect it's the rear rotors, I've never machined or replaced them.

I drive 110 miles a day and all of that is "emergency stops" in Atlanta traffic. So after breaking like that, I guess you should try to roll a little so the pads don't sit in one spot?

Sure it's safe to apply the paring brake while driving. Just don't do it in traffic and don't expect too much braking action.

That's what I try to do. Putting it in neutral and releasing the brake might help, but the pads are still in light contact so I'm a little leary, but I do it when I can't roll forward a little.

This seems rather common. I have had mine trued (under warranty) once and replaced once. I fully expect to have to do it again.
I tried it in the parking lot at work and didn't notice any shaking. I had my front rotors machined today (Bakes Plus $14/rotor, off the car.) and am in the process. Trying to get a better ground to the BPCM while I'm at it...
