When did you purchase your XT5? This update may have been necessary before it was sold to you. Is your XT5 one of the 69,600 target vehicles?

Or, are you wanting to make the change for another reason.

Purchased my 2017 in Nov 2019 but I'm starting to have the problem described in this bulletin. Brake lights remain on even after releasing Brake pedal. If I lift up slightly on the pedal with my foot after releaseing the pedal the lights will go off like normal.

Did you purchase from a Cadillac Dealer?

Before taking on the task for changing the brake pedal mechanism, it may be worth your time to visit that dealer to check if the bulletin pertains to your vehicle. If so, they may be obligated to fix it if the service was not done before it was initially sold.

If you purchased elsewhere, a Cadillac Dealer may be able to courtesy fix your car for free or a reduced price. It is a safety issue.

I have a 2017 XT5 and had the brake pedal assembly replaced about 2 years ago. There was a problem with some of the early brake pedals as they would stick and the brake light would not go out. When the pedal is stuck, it also disables the cruise control. I had that problem a couple of times and the dealer could not find the problem. I noticed one night driving around town after I had replaced the halogens with LEDs that the brake lights were staying on. As stated, just lifting the pedal with your foot will make the brake lights go out. This was after the warrantry had expired, but the dealer shot me a good price. Maybe it was because I reminded him that they tested my brake pedal very early in my ownership and stated that the unit was okay. The new brake pedal also fixed the cruise control problem.

Found the issue. In the bulletin it mentions to make sure the 3 tabs on the activation switch bracket are securely over the pedal arms before replacing the part. One of my tabs was not securely seated which was causing the issue. Its nice when it's a free fix-- doesn't happen often.
