I have a 2013 XTS Platinum with the Brembo brakes. My car is about one and a half years old with just over 13,000 miles on it. I've had two oil changes and one tire rotation so far. At the last service the technician told me that at the next service I should have a brake caliper service which involves removing the calipers, cleaning them, lubricating them and putting them back (for a fee of $138 as this is not covered maintenance).

This sounds weird to me as i have never heard of maintenance for brakes. Has anyone else experienced this or needed this service? Is this normal?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Yes, it does sound odd. I have 26,400 miles on my '13 XTS Platinum, and have had no brake service done whatsoever. After I wash the car, I get the loud sounds in reverse, which stop within feet of my house, so it doesn't bother me. I would have to say that unless something is different with your car, a brake service at that mileage sounds suspicious.

Servicing calipers is normally done during pad replacement, But......The Brembo front calipers are fixed aluminum units that have steel locator pins for the pads, These pins tend to corrode to the caliper (dissimilar metals that don't like each other) and make it difficult to to remove at pad replacement time(dealt with it on my HHR SS). I plan to knock the pins out and never seize them, my car has only 1400 miles so far. If you are in a southern climate I wouldn't worry about it, if you live in the rust belt, have the front caliper pins removed, cleaned and never seized If they corrode in there bad enough, caliper replacement may be required...Brembo$$$$$.
