There is a small hole from corrosion on my engine block.

Can I mate a different block from another engine with the current top end I have now?

Drill the small leak out big enough so you can screw a self threading screw with some silicon gasket maker on it. If it seals it all is fine; if it doesn't work what have you lost? Don't go making a big deal out of what sounds to me like small potatoes.

I agree with you dkoz, but what if there are more places within the water jacket that have corrosion? Its evident the prior owners didnt take the necessary precautions to keep the cooling system up to par.

I havent really had time to take it to another shop to pull the engine. Thing is I need the transportation rite now. Funny thing is I put some of that radiator sealer in twice, the first time it sealed but I noticed when I put the engine under high compression/wot, it will blow the temporary seal. So I drive like an old fart and refill coolant every 2 weeks (its still coming out but must be vapor).

Thing is engine has to be pulled to get to hole anyway, so I am just prolonging the inevitable.

The only person that saw the hole was the guy who had it on the rack, I tried but could not see even when he was trying to point it out.

I asked him several times if he was sure it wasnt the head gasket, and every time he said positively not.

What is your plan?

I'd probably line up an engine and tear my old one apart before I bought the new one. That way I could verify the problem. If it is a hole I'd be tempted to fix it as dkozlowski suggested (or weld it). I think I'd suspect a casting flaw more than corrosion.

Another idea is JB weld as a temporary fix. Thoroughly clean the block and apply the JB weld. It would hold awhile. I wouldn't count on a permanent fix though.

A friend of mine fixed a small block Chevy that had the whole water jacket on one side pushed out by a freeze-up. He tapped the jacket back into position with a hammer, smoothed off the surface with a small disk sander, and covered over the crack with DevCon epoxy steel and aluminum sheet held on with pop rivets. The repair was still holding years later. It never leaked a drop.
