Stupid question, have you called GM corporate directly??? They are extremely helpfull and will definitely get to the bottom of things, kind of like the police chief walking into a bar full of cops fighting. Sh*t settles pretty quick! Good luck!!!!

Too late to get another dealer, but my dealer swapped my dif out just because I mentioned a bit of whine. My point is, there are both good and not-so-good dealers out there ... IMHO, it's all about the how the owner of the dealership sets the policy and his/her relationship with GM.

I do believe you are getting in the arse but I must say this much! I try and post all the races I have which tells you that I do drive my car hard but have not had a rear end issue yet at 21k miles! So, my question is: WHAT THE HELL DO YOU GUYS DO TO BLOW ALL THESE REARS? I just do not get it but I do know that most of you guys, NOT ALL, must be doing smoke shows, very hard launching, second gear BANGING (if not then power shifting...even worse), wheel hopping the shit out of it etc. There are some exceptions here, but not many, I'm sure. So, while I am on your side 100%, no car would survive the beatings most of you are giving these cars!
I do not know the history of the car or how long you had, because I did not read the first post, but that is an issue if you just got it. SIMPLY BLAME IT ON THE OTHER OWNER AND/OR ON THE DEALER WHO HAD IT AS ALL OF THE CADDY MANAGEMENT PEOPLE DRIVE THESE CARS TO DEATH WHEN SITTING ON THEIR LOT AND THEN THE TEST DRIVES! I test drove 3 cars before buying this one and wheel hopped the sh*t out of each one. We just couldn't agree on a price!
I am quite sure your rear whined before you bought it as mine did since 4k miles when I got it! Anyway, good luck to you and I wouldn't pay a cent until fighting is over and then I still wouldn't pay. I believe you paid already and that is not good news! I will read the entire thread and see what I missed and again, good luck!

P.S. Although we do not know the 'whole' story, I will say that this story is bad news in my eyes as far as buying another Caddy if they will not warranty a problem that has happened time and time again because they won't put a more expensive rear in the cars and just charge the consumer cost! Wouldn't that eliminate a lot of problems? If something like this happened to me, I would never buy a GM product again and I would post my story on the internet sooo much that you would see it everywhere, even when you clicked on a porn site you would read about my non warranty issue! Later
So basically you're saying that everyone should be babying a performance car we spent $50k for. Tells you a little about the GM engineering. If what you say is true, then why didn't we all just buy 3.6L CTSs?!

C'mon now, I didn't say that at all! Please read it closely or closer as I clearly stated that hole shots and wheel hop and powershifting is not what these cars, or any other cars, are designed for! Case in point, I 'NEVER' decline a run with someone else and egg many cars on, so I look for it, and haven't blown a rear yet with 21k miles! Clearly not what you stated!

I had a 98SS camaro that went to the track with 900 miles and then sprayed it with 125hp shot at 2500 miles with every bolt on available... that made a difference anyway, and the car ran 12.1 at 118 mph with only blowing 2 rears till 30k miles. One rear blew at the track and it was the only 1.78 60ft time and blew hitting 2nd and that run would have easily put me in the 11's, probably more like 11.80 and the next one blew after some retard fixed that one two months later. So, in effect, the next gear change lasted 20k miles of racing on the street in 50 races or so, and 20 bottles...15lb bottle no less! I knew the rear was weak and didn't kill it...but I surely wouldn't lose a race either because I was worried about the rear. I just figured how to still make it run without absolutely grenading the rear every month. One more thing, it had drag radials on it from 2k miles! Went through 4 sets of rears! Have I proved my case a little bit?

Really? These guys don't think so, and they test every car ever produced.

Holy crappers! HAVE YOU READ THIS!? This is what someone put up on the forum just a few minutes ago. I copied it and will paste here for you. I would make sure that your rep is aware of this for our rearends!

I hope I'm not beating a dead Camaro to succeed. I would like to now reprint a particular section of that article relating to our wonderful rear ends (no pun intended).
The title of the paragraph is "Give This A Musclecar Drivetrain"
He states: I have an internal GM document on my desk that was sent between the program mangers & engineers at Delphi & GM regarding the 04-05 CTS-V rear halfshafts. The max vehicle load acceptable for these shafts was 5100 Nm, and a "side-step clutch pop maneuver at gross vehicle weight and 4000 rpm exceeds this acceptable load"--that load was measured to be 5652 Nm. GM signed off on the shafts anyway, and there are a lot of unhappy CTS-V owners out there who found out about the V's differential the hard way. The article then continues by syaing that since GM has shifted from live axle to IRS, it MUST provide one that is strong enough for use in a V-8 musclecar. The V-8 Camaro won't be spending much time with the wine-and-cheese crowd--we're talking big smoky burnouts with red-blooded Americans behind the wheel. GM screwed up big-time with the weak '04-'05 CTS-V differential & halfshaft design and then compounded that problem by making it difficult for frustrated owners to get it fixed. With any decently sized V production run, this would have been a PR nightmare. Total production numbers of the V will pale in comparison to the proposed amount of V-8 Camaros. GM must build the Camaro's drivetarin right the first time, period. <End of article>

Someone really needs to get a hold of that document and go public with it.. There should be a recall on all 04/05 1.25" halfshafts..

Just to set the record straight. I don't beat on my "V" a hole lot. I do however like a holeshot now and than. Normally 1500 rpm hard on the gas no traction control will generate wheelhop that I can drive through or back off if suvere. This time it hooked pretty good (tires at 25/lbs) traction on and before I could let off it blew. Maybe three good hops. Just good traction.

Absolute BS that they charged you for the repair. If you are in NY and want to speak to the attorney who helped me Lemon Law my '05 V...65 days in dealer service in 12mos...pm me and I'll help you all I can. I have a folder 2" thick on back-up documentation that was used against GM.

I still drive an LS6...it's just 800lbs lighter and has a Maggie....no clunks, bangs, or hops. LL = best thing I ever did!!!!

The car was is a 04 and bought with 8000 miles. And it does look like that closer_2001. I believe the way the claim was explained to GM may have something to do with the rejection. The work order I recieved stated the rear was destroyed, not a word I would use for warrenty work.
How many miles on the car now?? Did you buy it from a dealer??

I've had three performance sedans in three years. I drove all three of them VERY aggressively. Two failed miserably and one has never, ever, ever been to the dealer for a mechanical failure. It now has 21,000 trouble free miles. And it'll still shred the rear tires without hopping as long as I care to stay in the throttle.

Of course I remember. I never forget a font. :D For the record I am on LXforums, although not as actively as here. Just doesn't feel like home. Had an awesome time Friday at the SRT Track experience. Details in the lounge. I'm definitely going back to VIR with my own car. Great fun!

A racetrack...not a strip, but an honest-to-goodness roadcourse that allows one to drive a performance vehicle (or any other type of vehicle if allowed) the way it was designed...ie, the V or in CVP's case the SRT.

Virgina Int'l Raceway.

"Straights are for fast cars, corners are for fast drivers"....now imagine having both...

We had a great time, but my SRT would've been faster than what they had. There's were stock, stock intake, exhaust, suspension, etc. We were still hitting 130mph on the straights but could've topped 150mph easy.
