The black paint on my Nav button is peeling off. It looks really ugly.

Has this happened to anyone else?

My car is about 1 year old now with about 12k miles.

I am taking it to the dealer on Monday.

I already had my dealer replace the head unit once because the paint was coming off of the radio/nav preset buttons. That was at about 12K miles and now I noticed the new unit is doing the same thing at 18K miles.

Mine is doing the same thing, I was thinking of touching it with a black sharpie to fix it, at least for the short haul, I'm afraid that if they change out the head unit it may not sound the same, so unless it turns real ugly, I'm gonna wait.

This really annoys me.

You shouldn't have these types of quality control problems when the sticker price is $45,000.

I know Mercedes, BMW, and Jaguar have bad reputations for quality as well, but I am still annoyed.

Very common problem, even with the CTS-V owners as well. Mine was replace last month. Amazing that paint peeling off a button costs GM an entire NAV unit plus the labor to install. IDIOTS! And they wonder why they lost money last quarter?

It doesn't cost them a nav unit----the radios/nav units are on an exchange only. When it gets replaced, it is a refurbished unit---they are not going to put in a BRAND NEW one in for a button. They are rebuilt by SPECMO Industries for my dealer. Hope this helps,

Here's how the sharpie did. Granted I only had a small chip on the button, but it works in this application.
Doesn't look bad, but my chip is much bigger. I couldn't use a sharpie because the chip penetrates beyond the N in NAV.

Interesting. Same exact button.

Thats the kind of thing that makes me go hmmm.

same problem here. Mainly the right round selector button. Since that one has no text on it, I was thinking of spraypainting it. Just looking for the right color...

Can I pop out that button?

happened on mine too, the top right button. They had to replace the entire unit, and the new unit there is a pretty noticable gap now between 2 of the buttons where when the lights are on you can see some of the backlight showing thorugh the buttons. Even though its a small issue, a 40,000 car should not have any noticable gaps. I need to have it replaced again before warranty is up.

The round selector knobs are available seperately... It doesn't require replacing the entire radio assembly...

Just pull it off. I have the same problem on mine. Will have to test the Hungarian Cadillac dealership.

I was reading the CD to DVD navigation thread, and concern came over the peweter interior color faceplate and the black colored one from the 04+ and people said just swap the faceplates. So why wouldnt GM just swap faceplates instead of replacing entire nav units??

i just had this fixed. i live on long island and the dealer tried to get a new radio/nav. but they couldn't match the wood so they made the company send just the button. they should have used the type of button on the new dts. rubber outside, w/ chrome bezel. hopefully with the new cts they will have learned from this cheap cost cutting mistake!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:nono:
