Me and my family checked into this hotel last Friday at 1130. We were issued two keys to our room upon checking in, and went straight to our room for a much needed nap. One of the keys didn't work at all....NOTHING UNUSUAL right? Those credit card key things quit working all the time and I never think anything of it. But the other key worked just fine so WTF? Me being the paraniod freak you all have come to know and love (and unarmed with the exception of my trusty Benchmade) I locked and chained the door to our room and got into the buisness of taking my nap.

About an hour and a half after barring ourselves into our room I was awakened by someone sticking a key into our door and trying to push it open. Thank God I had the door chained because they would've walked right in on us. I immediately ran to the door and threw it open to find nobody standing in the looonnng hallway. Well when this person realized somebody was inside the room they immediately fled down the fire escape stairs located right next to our door.

So I reported all this to the hotel manager and security. But something wasn't sitting right with me. The housekeeper denied being anywhere near our room, so I asked security to pull the records of who had used any card keys to try to come into our room. The report showed that we were issued 2 keys, and showed where we used the key to get into the room at 1135'ish.

But this report also showed that I had used one of my keys to enter the room at 1:00 pm. Hmmmm :hmm: how the fvck can I do that when I'm inside my room sleeping? So I had the security guy scan both the keys I was given and guess what??? One key was my room key and the other was a blank key.

So by slide of hand I was given one good key and one bogus key when checking in. And 2 hours later someone tried to break into my room using one of my keys. That means the front desk clerk is a crook. I called the police to file a report the next morning. When the cops showed up I really got the attention of the security manager. According the the cop no crime was committed since they didn't actually enter my room.

So we did switch rooms, and I insisted they only make ONE room key. And anyone who made a duplicate key would be damned. I slept with my luggage stacked in front of my door that night.

Beware the Radisson Hotel in downtown Miami people!!!!!!!!

Rant off. That is all.

:sbox:

UPDATE:

After writing two emails to the hotel manager and calling once to leave a message on his voice mail, and two emails to Radisson's customer service from their national website I finally received a reply from "nick" a CS represenative. 6 weeks after the fact. :annoyed:

Here's his email:

So if you call the police they don't get involved. :ill: Stupid policy IMO.

Here's my reply to him:

Nick,

I appreciate your reply to my concerns. I believe you should revisit your policy and deal with these issues on your own. It seems apathetic to make investigating criminal activity and promoting hotel quality assurance the responsibility of a despondent customer. Perhaps I wasn't clear in my email about my attempt to involve the Miami police. The officer visited with me, but no reports were filed and nothing was done by that officer. So for you to imply that the authorities were or are involved in any official capacity is incorrect. I wash my hands of any responsibility. If the Radisson chooses to do nothing it will not surprise me. Again, I have spent my last night in ANY of your hotels.

Sincerely,

So it's just what I thought would happen. Nothing.

That's pretty tame. The Mush Inn Motel in Anchorage had 586 police assistance calls in one year. The one night I stayed there a gunfight involving U.S. Air Marshals occurred right outside my room. Later the same night a couple of guys with UZIs aired out the crib of some local drug dealers in the next building. In the morning I checked out because the bathroom was infested with roaches.

My good friends were at the world championships for paintball two years ago in Miami. One of my buddies woke up very early in the morning to two men going through thier bags. They saw him and split. As he came to his senses he realised what was going on and woke up everyone. They got off with around $3000 in stuff. Keep in mind just one gun without a barrel or airsystem can be $1500-$2300. No forced entry. They had a key. The hotel was in on it.

Would have been too sweet of he had painted them up with that paint ball rifle. :want: I'm just glad they didn't want to force in and fight. My wife and child were with me, and I was (practically) unarmed.

Normally I'm carrying one of these

but the cruise ships frown on it. What's a guy to do? I did pile 130 pounds of luggage in front of the door that night...hoping it would give me the tactical advantage. If they managed to break through it I had a plan to offer them my wife and beg for my life. ;) ;)

It's like taking a partner on a fishing trip into bear country. You don't have to be able to outrun the bear, just your partner. My hotel partner is a Walther PPK/s.

That's Miami for you, the New York of the south! Thank you for visiting the great state of Cuba, come again.

On that note, I guess I don't feel so bad about the night I spent at that shit-hole motel in Jacksonville. Yea my door wouldnt shut cause it had been kicked in once before, there was seedy activity happening all around, and my sheets smelled like a fatman on a treadmill... but nobody tried to get in!

Oh by the way, depending on the hotel those keys are *amazingly* easy to get a hold of.

Jesda and I were staying at the Broadview hotel in Wichita under Jesda's reservation last weekend, but Jesda had to leave 1 day early. I inadvertently left the keys in the room as I was walking out after he had left (I was staying one more night) and I thought I was fvcked for sure, since all my things were still in the room and I WASNT Jesda. Well lo and behold I walk non-chalantly up to the front desk and tell the girl "Hey Im really sorry I locked my keys in the room, its for Jesda G. in room 345". Two seconds later "Here you go sir just bring the extras back when you leave!".

No ID check, no hassle, just two card-keys in my hand with nothing more than the person's name and room number... Information you've already got if you want to get in a particular person's room. Ironically, the Broadview was formerly the Radisson Broadview...

I love your sig.

Notice that vegetarians "expect" you to make a special dish for them yet if you go there for a meal they don't extend the same courtesy...

I have one thing to say to vegetarians. The eyes you have are in the front of your head. This makes you a predator. Eyes on the side of your head makes you a herbivore. Simple science.

Funny you mention vegetarians. I'm hosting a B-day party at my place tonight for one of my wife's coleagues. One of the guys is a new vegetarian (< 1 year), and she's warning me that we have to have something for HIM to eat. I said f*** him I'm having the party catered by a killer BBQ place, tell him he'd better bring a veggie-sammich or sumpin for himself to eat. :lildevil: I'm having RIBS!

Go to his house and see if he cooks you a steak. One could have a few and point out the science behind where his eyes are compared to a grazing animal.

Yeah, **** him. Unless he's a good friend or close family member, I wouldn't extend him that courtesy. Not for some Joe Blow you'll never see again.

Maybe he can have some of the Hors D' Ouerves. But at your party, that's probably something like Deep Fried Bacon.
