I am sorry about bringing up the radar detecors again. I have searched but found no details about the Beltronics STI.

I have read reviews on-line and it stated there are 3 radar detectors to buy and they were the Valentine, Beltronics, and Escort. This review did not have the Beltronics Driver STI detector so the comparison was against the RX65 Pro.

Now in the reviews it indicated that the Valentine worked well against Laser because of the dual antenna's. The Escort and the Beltronics were better in all of the other catagories though.

It also said the the V1 did give off more false alarms and this is a concern because I live in a pretty heavily populated area and if I get too many False alarms I will start to ignore it then you no what comes next... Ticket.

Now this Beltronics has the dual antenna's and what they call the "Exclusive Total sheild technology" (more marketing crap in my opinion). It also has a magnesium case which doesn't help the performance but I like to get away from the plastique.

It seems like this (I think new design) detector has matched the V1 in the Laser department and it appears to be the better detector because of this. Also the cost is comparible to the V1.

Does anyone have one of these and if so what do you think?

Radar detectors have never worked for me. They always seem to pop up to late and I can't stand all the false warnings. Makes my ass pucker everytime whether I'm speeding or not. :) The only detector i've ever heard good things about were Valentine 1 and last test I checked out, it destroyed Bell, Escort, and Passport.

I'd say save your money and buy a tune from Stealth instead. :)

Thanks for the info.

Stealth Tune on the way...

The Stealth Tune is the reason I'm looking into the radar detector! I already drive a little "Spirited" with the Headers, should only get worse now. Would like some kind of warning.

Ass pucker from a radar detector isn't near as bad as the ass pucker when you see the cherries...

Do you remember were you saw this test?

I'm with Jim, from my SHO through multiple corvettes for my wife and my present CTS-V, the V1 is the only way to go!! Saved me from at least 3 citations on a recent Arizona to California blast.

All you're going to get here is "V1 !!!"

I would suggest doing some research for yourself outside of this forum. I own a Bel detector and it works fine, when it can. The Cops are getting smarter with instant on and picking their targets vs just raditating, and Laser detection - HAHA yeah after he's got your speed reading. Passive Laser avoidance via a detector is a losing battle.

One of the members here (will remained unamed unless he wants to chime in) just got a ticket in this area even with his detector because the cop is/was smart enough to know the right area to sit in that makes the detector practically useless because of the falses it generates on the Laser. If the cop is smart and well trained you/we are basically screwed with a passive detection device. I'm not saying they can and will not save you from certain situations, mine certainly has. But if they want you they can get you with today's technology no matter what detector you own.

That's IF they want to try. The vast majority don't focus on the educated driver and just shoot away at the great unwashed who think detectors are utterly useless.

Cobra, huh? All the features? Like counters and arrows? Outdated? I guess you did so much research that you got tired and didn't find that the V1 is constantly updated and there is an update program that allows you to send a V1 back in to get the latest updates for the fraction of a new detector. Even the V1 detractors admit the updates are nice.

There's a difference in detecting "all the bands" and detecting them well...

The V1 was my first choice until I read an article about setting them on the Dash for about 1 hour powered up and it would no longer pick up one of the bands. They repeated this test on another and then it wouldn't pick up 2 of the bands. I understand components fail but there was no indication that something had happened. In the article I read it did not indicate that the V1 does a self test and this has me a little concerned.

The lack of a self check is the ONLY reason I am not buying one right now. Does anyone know about this?

From what I have read so far the battle is between the STI Driver and the V1.

V1 is an awesome detector and did very well in the tests. Also, everyone out there gives it nothing but praise and this is why I haven't bought the STI either.

I sure like the fact they continue to update it, this is an awesome feature.

Help.

Maybe our LEOs are being a little more proactive down here. I can think of three specific cases (two are forum members) who hold both detectors and tickets because the LEOs were playing it smart.

I see them getting smarter too. I got zapped doing 92. I was traveling my normal route to work and there he was sitting in a spot I have not seen the five years taking this route. I no sooner hit my brakes and he got me with instant on. I have had two other cases where had I been speeding they would have got me. Did not even see them. Just full tone on the detector.

By the way I have the V1.

Oh Jeebus, I think I'm going to faint. Someone that owns a V1 admitted they got a ticket via Radar.

:jawdrop: ;)
Sorry to hear dude. The two I know of tagged by radar were instant on as well. It's tough to beat if the LEO knows his stuff and wants to earn some revenue no matter what you own.

If I had been paying attention earlier I would have known. It gave me warning but I had just gone through an area that sets off false allerts and did not pay attention. It was about half a mile after the falses normally stop and it was just a quick beep and was gone before I had a chance to look at it. Didn't even register in my head until after... It is a good detector but does get alot of falses in my area. Makes it hard to pay attention to all of them.

I have noticed that when some cars pull up close to my rear bumper that the laser will go off. I was told that it was the new parking sensors they are putting on cars. That laser tone is loud enough to make you crap your pants the first time it goes off...

Well, if it happens, I'll readily admit it. But the only time it happened was when I had to halt my vacation in Maine to drive a friend back to NYC when his car broke down. It was 3AM and I hadn't turned up the volume on the V1. I was so zoned out, I didn't see it lit up like a Christmas Tree. And the pig just had it constant-on.

As for those pigs that "really want" to nail you, they also have guidelines to follow per the NHTSA in procedure. Many ignore these and use illegal procedures. And the wonderful NMA gives you the tools to fight these illegal stops...

I don't know whether they still bother to use these things anymore, but when considering RADAR/LASER detectors, one must not forget VASCAR. No RADAR/LASER detector of any kind can help with VASCAR because it doesn't use any kind of emitted signal that can be detected (it is a timer system using measured distance markers).

And don't forget the old tried and true method of being followed and clocked by the police vehicle which might not be detected if it is unmarked or if it is dark due to nightime conditions.

I have a Beltronics V965 that seems to work as well as any kind of detector that I have owned (Cobra and Uniden).

I’m one of those CWIS is referring to. I have the Beltronics.

It did a great job letting me know I was getting a ticket. I really wish I had bought the V1. It would have let me know the direction from which the ticket would be delivered.
