I left my interior lights on overnight and this morning the battery was dead and it would not start. The lights were still on dimly this morning when I noticed it. I thought the CTS has a power saving feature that would automatically cut power if the lights were left on? Is this a feature that needs to be manually turned on?

Hmm, I would have thought it would have shut the lights off automatically. :hmm: I know theres been a time or two where I've been washing my car with the stereo on and when I got back in, it said "battery save on" or something, but the lights and radio still worked normally (and it started no problem). This was after about 45min or so of radio on/(head)lights off/engine off.

turn the ignition on, hit the setup button, and scroll through personalized options (same place as the memory seats and all that). see if there is a power save mode with a check box that isn't checked. if it would be anywhere, it would be there...

It does and it works in mine. Something must be wrong. Are there controls at the DIC to able or disable this fearure?

Well, if the slider was pushed foward past the detent. That would be the 'on' position. And the override would not work thus the lights being on.

My CTS has push buttons..no sliders. It's either on or its off.

Yes, This was my problem and as I am reading the booklet all the other lights and switches are protected except that one. If I had turned the map lights on separately they would have shut off. (STUPID)

Anyway, My cigarette lighter plugs are also constantly powered and they do not shut off as well. Reading through the manualy I found this:

"The power outlets can be set to be powered all of the time or to turn off 10 minutes after your vehicle is shut off. If you desire a change from this setting, see your dealer for a fuse adjustment. "

What the heck is a fuse adjustment? Why cant this be a simple little setting?

The slider for the cluster lights..also turns on the ovehead lights if push all the way forward Unless the 04's have buttons for the cluster lights you should have the same features.

I know those lighter units stay on in my car..and I didn't do anything. And we both have 05's.

What the heck is a fuse adjustment? Why cant this be a simple little setting?

I read about this fuse setting in the cadillacfaq. In your fusebox (under the hood) is indeed a switch that you can set for this permanent or 10 min delay power off. It's practically in the middle of your fusebox.

And BTW, I left the radio on on purpose for about 1 hour. I couldn't start my car anymore, but the battery check light was still green. The starter must draw a lot of power if it's not able to start after 1 hour radio operation. Or the radio draws a lot! I have had other cars where I could leave the radio on for a whole day without problems... I guess the DIC screen makes the difference...

thomm, evidently there are two locations for the cigar lighter/power outlet fuse. In one location the power is constantly on, in the other, the power goes off after ten minutes. I'm sure I have seen this discussion before in another thread.

I know I've left my radio running that long with the engine off an had no problem starting. Did you have any lights on? I had the key in the "run" position and the lights and the a/c turned off. German batteries must not be a tough as American batteries.

Well, I bought my '03 used. So I don't know what the former owner did to the battery. When it dies a couple of times, the performance of the battery goes down too.
You think my Euro version has a different battery? I haven't checked yet...
