Help. Twice in the past week my batttery has died, 50 miles from my house. You can imagine the expense. The first time the dealer patted me on the head, said I left something on, charged me 50 bucks, and sent me on my way. Last night the car died (in three hours) after being parked. I can't imagine what would cause a dead battery after three hours unless I left the lights on, which of course I didn't. Now the dealer is not returning my phone calls.

See the thread, close by, on battery voltage.

A dead cell will kill a battery VERY quickly - even if it initially appears fully charged. No battery, new or old, is immune from an internally shorted cell.

After exceedingly good luck on battery life in my '06 STS, just last week my two year old battery died with a terminally dead cell. It would appear to be totally charged but went dead as soon as I put the load tester on it. I got it replaced under warranty at the NAPA store where I bought it and now everything is back to normal.
