Chrysler will launch a new ad campaign which will feature Chairman Dieter Zetsche drawing linkages between the Three-Pointed Star and the Pentastar. The aim, according to company officials, is to make customers aware that Benz technology and engineering lurk inside Chrysler products.

"and they don't know that Chrysler cars are equipped with Mercedes safety technology and engineering"

And they don't know Mercedes cars are now equipped with Chrysler transmissions and brake systems....... ;)

Honestly though you would figure a guy smart enough to be head of the company could figure our a simple brand name disconnect. If you wanted the common folk to make a brand name association you should have called it Chrysler-Benz I don't know many people driving a Daimler 300C. :gun:

Does the Pentastar even exist anymore? I thought they got rid of that totally by about 1996 or so?

That symbol, to me perfectly embodies the crap that was coming out in the '80s.

I really like the winged logo Chrysler brought back in the mid 90s.

I wouldnt mind changing the blue GM badge either. To me it says "80s junk"
You know, in my eyes GM was making some fine cars in the 80's. The RWD full size cars were great old school cars and very reliable. GM also had great mid size cars in the Monte Carlo and Olds Cutlass, etc. The Fbody cars were also nice for their day and are arguably the best looking fbodies since their conception. Of course we also had the C4 Vette which still looks good today and cars like the Grand National which made us all think twice about hating on V6 cars. All in all, I like 80's GM cars. :bouncy:

In the '80s, GM had some great cars. All the ones that you mentioned Destroyer. Also, they had a lot of shit, but probably less than Chrysler or Ford at the time.

Let's see a Mercedes run at Talledega or Bristol, then they'll get my attention.

Hmmm..a NASCAR fan. Toyota is trying in '07 but the learning curve will be long. They are still stuggling in the Truck Series.

Dieter Zetsche is such a copy cat!!:rant2: Lido(Lee) Iacocca did the same thing for Chrysler many years ago. "Lead, get in line or get out of the way!" He was a true leader for Chrysler.

I'm not really a NASCAR fan.

But it would be interesting to see Mercedes, BMW, Honda, and Toyota throw their hats into the ring.

Iacocca is probably the last hero of the American auto industry.

Iacocca was a genius. Was that whole mitsubishi-chrysler thing his idea?

I love the way Iacocca teamed up with the "Skunks Works" and Carroll Shelby. Remember the Dodge Omni GLH(Goes like Hell) a turbo charged 2.2?

Chryler was at death's door step and Lee made a deal with Uncle Sam for a cash infusion and paid off the debt early. LIDO WE NEED YOU MAN!!

Interesting.

In Europe the Sprinter Vans are badged as MB and in NA they are badged as Dodge so as not to sully the MB reputation. Go figure?

The Smart car which is badges as a MB is draging down their JD Power ratings and they wish they never badged it that way.

That was cool, but that wasn't the best part. The best part was the Spirit R/T, 224hp in a staid looking family sedan. Sleeper!!

The Germans probably hate the idea of Chrysler crap in their beloved MB's as much as many moronic Americas love the idea of MB in their Chryslers. A break-even idea, if you ask me!
