Backup camera grid lines

Recently took delivery of my 2023 premium luxury Escalade. I noticed there are no grid lines on the backup camera when the car is put in reverse. Called dealer who was not aware of a fix and noted they would send an inquiry to GM.

Has anyone had similar issues? Has it been resolved? Seems like a serious safety and security issue on a car of this size. The height and width of this vehicle makes it challenging to rely on rear view mirror and the backup camera itself provides an augmented view which distorts the space/dimensions behind the vehicle. Thanks in advance to all responders.

Sorry to keep hijacking... I just got the OTA update notice for N222386380. Different then the original update (N22235945) I posted about above.

@typeak is this the one you had taken care of at the dealer?

So I have been looking for the mailer about the DRL recall. I couldn't find it and the number. I interestingly ALSO got that OTA update yesterday as well. So I also have two software updates listed that also say they address the lights, like you are stating. So now I'm more confused about what fixes what.

I can say, I've had both OTAs installed and the DRL recall addressed at the dealership separately, and the DRLs remain on with the headlights at night, they are just dimmer. Still looks good though. Very subtle.

Hello to all, I just purchased a '23 escalade diesel with the same issues of no gridlines or guidelines from the front or rear camera. I spoke to Brogan dealership in totowa, nj and they were very attentive to my concern but informed me that it was a gm software problem an that i need to wait for them to issue an update. I will be submitting a complain to gm to keep track of this issue since so many of us are going thru. good luck to all.

Just had mine serviced last week (7500 miles). Dealership could not fix or give any timeframe. Curious about this though. My Escalade did not have an SD card in the back panel slot. Could this be an issue? My belief is that it is for video recording and the grid lines are also related to the video recorder.

EDIT: I was at my dealership today taking care of the steering wheel recall and they did the software update, grid lines are finally working

I was just at my dealership and they told me there’s an update. He told me I’d have to bring the truck in so I’m guessing they have to do something or they just want to make sure the update works.
Did they provide a software version number?

We took delivery of our 2023 Escalade ESV new build 2 weeks ago. Immediately, while still at the dealership, we noticed the gridlines weren't working and pointed it out to the salesperson. He said it was weird, but asked us to take delivery anyway and he would research it to see if there was a fix and we could bring it back later. Pretty sure he forgot about it after that. But then I started doing some research on trying to figure out how to fix it and came across this forum and discovered there had been a fix for 2 weeks before we even took delivery. Then, after only 3 days of owning it, my wife was backing out of the driveway and hit the gate because she was forced to use the mirrors instead of the backup camera because the gridlines were not present. She's backed out of our driveway for over 10 years with her old vehicle of similar size and never had any trouble because she was able to use the backup camera with the gridlines. This time, she caught the gate because it has not swung all the way open yet. Put a nice little hole in the rear bumper, dented the secondary bumper fascia, and the step pad on top of the bumper. Do we have any case for Cadillac/GM/the dealership to repair the bumper for us? A safety feature we paid for was not present and caused the issue. I feel Cadillac holds at least some of the liability here for delivering a faulty vehicle (with an issue they had known about for 8 months and already had a fix for). And the dealership for sending her home with it when there was a fix available. I don't know. What do you guys think? Anyone have any advice or recommendations?

Honestly she needed to look, gridlines are just an aid and you are responsible for your driving. I had same issue BTW its just a software update, but your camera was working so she could see behind the truck. I don't think Cadillac should be on hoom for bad driving IMO.
Yeah, agreed. I think it just threw her off just enough. I know when I back out, I rely on my backup camera/lines and my side mirrors. On the caddy, the mirrors automatically flip down I guess to watch for curbs, so the side mirrors weren’t an option. So she was trying to do it all using the cameras, mainly the overhead one because the lines weren’t working, it shows the vehicle in the driveway better, but it doesn’t clearly show a narrow gate swinging toward the vehicle. Again, I agree the fault was hers, but also know it wouldn’t have happened if the backup grid lines were functional, as we paid for.

I had to look up what everyone is even talking about. None of my last 3 cars have had gridlines... but then again, I'm probably going to date myself but I don't rely on the camera. I look at side mirrors and look back over my shoulder like we were taught way back when :)
