So I've had my 2007 Platinum CTS-V for a month now and I'm in love with it all over again.
I had a 2005 Black Raven but sold it because I was making a little more dough and figured I should get something a little flashier. So I went on a little car hunt:
Volvo S60R: I never drove this car but I went to check it out at the auto show with one of my buddies who seemed to think the Volvo was the car for me, and for whatever reason is just an overall promoter of Volvos. The Volvo guy kept telling me it had 300 horsepower. That is just a ton of power he kept saying. It took everything in me not to tell him my car has 400 hp, so keep your pants on. I looked at my friend and he just bowed his head in shame
BMW M3: Nice car, good looking but it didn't put me in the back of my seat like the V. And after having my V I wanted Nav and it was hard to find one with Nav. Also. it was kind of a lot of money for a 330 hp car. Plus where I live in Calgary, Alberta everybody and their brother has an M3
Audi S4: I was actually looking for an RS4 but the dealer told me if I ordered an RS4 now (this was in October) I'd get one in June. So thinking it`d be more or less the same I test drove an S4. I was thoroughly disgusted. I actually asked the salesman if this was an S4 or an S-line A4. It was painfully slow. The interior was nice though and it was well equipped and in Canada all wheel drive is handy to have in the winter, but I couldn't get over how slow it was. The salesman knew I was interested in an RS4 and that the S4 was about as fun as a cold sore. I left the Audi dealership still think the RS4 was going to be the way to go. It was manual, had 420 hp and I assumed it would look pretty aggressive in real life. This was until I saw one in real life and it looked just like an A4. It seemed ever smaller, it sounded good but no better than a CTS-V and still cost over $100k cdn, So it was back to the drawing board.
Audi S6: Looked into it, only came in automatic only had 435 hp, yet Audi still had the audacity to charge over $100k cdn. When I asked my buddy how the execs at Audi sleep at night, he responded on piles of money with many high class hookers.
BMW M5: I've always loved the M5 and I was almost sure this was what I was going to get. The one I test drove was a '06 so the only available transmission was the SMG. When I drove it I felt like I had this big powerful car and I wasn't even driving it. The worst thing was it onestly didn't feel any faster than my V. I asked if would ever come in manual and the salesman told me it would in '07. So I figured, hey I will just order an '07 manual drive my Denali through the winter and pick it up in March. When I sat down to go over the numbers I almost threw up in my mouth a little. I new it was a 100k + car but when we got to the final figure there was no way that car was worth that to me. Nor should it be to anyone else for that matter.
So it was a no on the BMW's, plus all my friends had their small penis jokes ready and waiting if I did buy one.
So I consulted my buddies and they all said I was an idiot for selling the V. I talked to girls and they all though my Cadillac was sexy (now they tell me.....women)
So in moment of weakness I went into our local Porsche dealership. Well I don't know if I smelled bad or had an "L" on my forehead but the salesman there treated me like something he picked out of his ear. By the end of our brief and infuriating transaction I wanted to look him in the eyes and kick him square in the testicles.
I actually considered a Z06 but I knew I needed at least 4 seats. That said, that car haunts my dreams. I vow to own one before I die.
So I went to the Cadillac dealership and sat in a silver V in the showroom. It was an '06 that the dealer had left over and according to them I could have got a deal on it.
But I ended up waiting and bought a 2007 platinum silver CTS-V. I thought I may seem like a bit of a tool for buying the same car twice, and my father confirmed it. Either way I went all out and bought the GM optional drilled brakes, optional exhaust (I know what you're think I had a Magnaflow on my old V and it was just too loud, this one is perfect) and a brushed aluminum dash kit, which everybody should consider getting to match the steering wheel. I'm currently shopping for some wheels, I want the Mallet ones but apparently they are sold out or something.
Long story short I'm back in the V and I'm pleased. I never had any problems with my '05 V but I was afraid if I came on this board and said that I'd just jinx myself, I hope this new one is just as good.
I am going to put a deposit down and factory order on the '09 if they would hurry up and release a real picture of it. I'm praying for the LS7 but I know that is highly unlikely.
Man, I'm glad I didn't sell out to the euros......
