my prob is, when i let my car just idle for a period of time my average mpg drops down to maybe 4 or 5 and my "miles to go" will go from 300 to like 40 or lower. soon as i start driving on the highway it will start to climb again. any help would be nice. newb here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:banghead: :confused:

there is nothing wrong with that...you must have just reset it, and it averages your millage.... so when you are stopped, you are suing fuel to run the engnie, but the car isn't moving, so your millage is 0, when you are at a constant highway drive at 75, there is a little amount of gas entering the engine, but the car is traveling at a high rate of speed.... so you might get 30mpg.... under Wide Open Throttle (WOT) gas is being dumped into the engine, but the ar IS moving, so you get something like 3-4mpg..... all this gets averaged to give you your average mpg..... do not reset your avg. mpg gauge for a while, and it will only move by .1 a little bit.....
