The algorithm for assigning when a given vehicle gets and OTA update likely considers when the vehicle is on and communicating actively with the Cadillac cloud, how many vehicles are in this state, if the network (usually cellular) connection is active, the bandwidth available at that moment in time, and how long the vehicle is connected.

 

I'd give someone mine if I could. I find it pretty much ado about nothing. Not enough songs available. I just don't get the excitement. I'd rather they just turn on the ceiling speakers for use with everything.

 

I've heard some songs (in my wife's, I still haven't gotten the update) that I can't tell the difference, but others are really awesome and take good advantage of the height speakers. It just depends on who is doing the mixing.

 

Yeah, I feel radically differently. I have so much Atmos content, I literally have trouble deciding what to play first. That said, I'd be fine if they let the ceiling speakers play for non-Atmos content.

 

Not likely. The same audio coming from above can cancel out other direct direct waves from the listening position, depending on where the listener is seated. They that its not option likely means that would be the case in the given array.

Source: I'm a certified Dolby Atmos engineer with over 20yrs experience in mixing music and about a half dozen years working in Dolby Atmos. When I made my first few Dolby Atmos music mixes, there wasn't anywhere to release them to. I just did it in between sessions because music sounded so amazing on the Atmos rig for the indie film I was helping a colleague out on, that I had to have it at our studio; no matter the insanely high cost (more than the price of a 2026 Cadillac Lyric and then some, just for the speakers) I also studied acoustics in college and I'm the go-to guy for other professionals looking to build Dolby Atmos rooms at their studio.

Ironically, I considered applying for the audio-engineer position at Cadillac that I seem to get on LinkedIn every time I login, a couple years ago, during a long stretch of slow-time at the studio, but ultimately decided my passion is for working in Dolby Atmos. So, I just toughed out the slow season. If I'd known designing a Dolby Atmos system for my favorite car company was on the table, that might've changed how I felt about it lol.

 

Mine was updating, got to 66%, hung there for a while, then failed. Now I can't access Updates and History. OnStar had me reboot, which didn't work. Has to go in the shop next week.

Anyone else had this issue?

 

Everyone gets stuck at 66%. It finishes eventually. My install failed completely the first time. I clicked the install button, and it succeeded the second time. For superstition's sake, I unplugged my USB stick, and paused the music playback for the second install. I don't think that really made a difference.

 

Finally got it today at work! 2 songs that particularly use all 4 height speakers really well are Love is a battlefield by Pat Benatar and Countdown by Rush.

 

I finally got my update today on my way to work (my wife got hers last week). I installed it during the charging session at work, hoping to try it out on my way home. My son called me just as soon as I got out of the parking garage, and the conversation went on until I got home. I’ll have to try it out on my way to work tomorrow.

 

So my take away is that even the phone conversation is immersive now 🤣

Haha, I guess so! My wife and I made some drinks after dinner and went to the garage to test it out. We got Tidal and tried several songs from the ‘80s: Dolby Atmos playlist. I played with the Sound settings and for most of the songs (but not all) we liked the Rear seeting better than the Front setting. Is everyone having the same experience?

 

Yes!

Personally I feel the rear mode has more depth/immersion and more punch, where the front is cleaner with more accuracy/fidelity.

Specifically with ATMOS I think rear mode can really alter the percieved sound placement, sometimes for the better (for my ear) depending on how it was mixed. On some songs I can hear the sounds 'moving' more in rear mode, but probably at the expense of accuracy of sound placement. My hearing is not great so maybe the exaggerated separation is just easier for my brain to decode?

Anyway I chuckled about 'relaxing' in the car out in the garage, my neighbors probably worry about me for all the time I spend in my car without ever leaving the driveway.

 

I've been hesitant to admit this but we've been having cocktail hour in our Optiq since we got it. The experience got even better when Dolby Atmos arrived. The cup holders are perfect for our glassware.

 

It's probably being in the right place at the right time for long enough to get in the queue to be identified for immediate download. Lots of variables involved. As the number of vehicles needing the update shrinks the chances improve.

 

I wish that Cadillac Customer Service would respond with the official answer explaining how OTA are queued, etc.

Just knowing would reduce anxiety and allow owners to optimize their chances if indeed things like 5g connection strength matter.

 

Well here's the thing. Information like that (internal technical process details) is usually kept from Customer Service Reps because the less information they have the better. If it isn't in their script, they don't have an answer.

 

I finally got the download yesterday. Wasn’t able to really used it yet. Will try it out next week.

 

Same. Took delivery in late March and just got & installed the ATMOS update yesterday.

I don't think I got the update for Atmos based on these pictures, but let me know. The build is January 2025 and I've had the car since July. If I don't have it, how do I force the update?

 

You can't force the update yourself. You either wait for GM to send it to your vehicle or you go to the dealer and request they update all modules via VWP.
