Picking up the V after a diff replacement and being told my car doesn't have an RPO for a posi track rear so they are not putting the friction additive in. Don't all Vs have posi and if so, how can I prove it to them without leaving 2 big black streaks in their lot?

thanks, he's stuck on the "where required" terminology, saying mine does not have a posi rear.
Anyone know a phone number I can call to have these guys believe all Vs have posi?

to be fair, I'm dealing with someone from the shop, as my service writer is on lunch right now. I bought myself some time as they didn't flash the new radio for a V so they just took it back while I wait. It would be great if I could resolve the posi issue before they finish

LOL. The guy I was dealing with just came out and said he checked with another tech (senior guy) who set him straight. They're putting the additive in now.

Thanks guys!

put a jack under the ass end and put the car in neutral and spin one of the tires. If the other spins the same direction then its a posi. If it spins the opposite direction then its an open diff. It WILL spin the same direction.

For lack of better terms, most people consider them the same thing....but.....
Posi is a locked rear end-both wheels get same amount of power.

Limited Slip has clutch packs that "lock" the axle (or axles) together. This is why you need the friction modifier.

i always use the test method....if you turn a sharp corner and the outside tire churps you have Posi...

I heard before that in the "old days" they used to weld Open diffs to make them Posi...????

Some ******** still do it to their ol' chevy's! :alchi: They do that in conjunction with the blown out glass packs to get her to launch good!

Kidding aside, I dont remember who I was talking to but he told me he broke the rear end or something. He opened it up and it had broken the spider gears so he just welded it solid and ran it until it broke again, then he bought a salvaged one.

Get a part number. Make sure they didn't put in a CTS diff. I doubt they're limited slip.
