Yes, I believe the 2016 is excluded, though possibly, it will be integrated later in that year.

My question is if one buys a 2016 SRX at the end of 2015, whether CarPlay will be introduced via software update or via a whole new hardware module.

Given that Cadillac lied about the CUE system being capable of growing with new technology, so as to prevent existing Cadillac CUE owners from being left behind as new apps were introduced... Don't hold your breath hoping for a software update or a hardware update.

This is great news! I took my ATS in for service last week and asked around the dealership about CarPlay in 2016 models and got lots of blank stares. Same for the Lincoln, BMW, and Mercedes dealers. If this comes to be it looks like I'll turn my ATS in when the lease is up in Feb. Are there any more details?

I stopped at my dealer for a free carwash and asked my salesman when the new cars would be in so I could see the new CUE system for 2016. He knows my wife drives a 2013 SRX and the lease is expiring soon. He also knows I like CUE but have issues with the bugs in it. He said Apple Play will be in all 2016 models including SRX. He expects to have some in by the end of the month. This is from Morrie's Cadillac in Minneapolis, MN. They are an excellent dealership and they know what they are talking about.

Cadillac's own release on this is pretty clear that it won't be in the SRX, at least not initially.*

One thing I've noticed with some of the other premium brands (BMW, Lexus) is a 'Tech Specialist' on staff at the dealership to handle the technical questions from customers, and to help with setup at delivery. Has anyone seen anyone like this at a Cadillac dealer? I know at my dealer (and others I've been too) this has been a real sore point. With new options like CarPlay coming along this is sorely needed, I hope Cadillac is prepared for the questions and configurations that will be coming (oh, maybe we can just go talk to a genius! :) )

Wondering, is it possible to have the "computer" in the system replaced so it has the latest/greatest version of CUE? Depending on the cost, i'd consider paying for such an upgrade.

Others have said it is confirmed that upgrading the existing CUE in older models to the new version is NOT possible.

The general CUE update may not possible for old models for due to older hardware. But Apple Car Play support can be easily added technically for older models since all heavy stuff runs on a iPhone and all car needs to do is to be just remote touch screen. I don't think Cadillac will do it anyway. They will prefer that people will buy new cars earlier.

Mike, where have you seen that it isn't possible? I was going to give this a try once the new units come out. Was hoping to just swap the 'brain' module out...

It will be very nice for Cadillac to give payable upgrade option to new CUE (including HW upgrade) for older model owners. But I don't believe in it. I have no idea how deeply CUE module integrated with a car. It can be that dealership technicians simply can't do the this swap technically.

So has anyone seen a 2016 with CarPlay yet? How will the options work? No CUE, CUE, CUE + CarPlay or CUE + Android, just CarPlay?

Whatever promises they make about Carplay.....don't believe it. This is the same company who promised us our CUE can " be upgraded during the life of the vehicle, so CUE will never become outdated."

I understand and share your frustration. I feel with CarPlay however, I'm putting my trust in Apple. Granted, Cadillac has to let me 'play through', and I've yet to see CarPlay, but my understanding is that Apple will be controlling most of the upgrades.
