Appears my brand new CT4-BW has 2 defects... first one is a buzzy driver's side midrange speaker in the door. Most of the time you can't hear it, but on certain songs it's really bad. Should be an easy fix provided it's the speaker and not a harness, pin fit, or amp issue.

Second, it is occasionally throwing a B1491 code with a 13 symptom byte along with a "service restraint system" warning on the cluster. That code is for a passenger automatic locking retractor switch signal, circuit open.

It seems to happen every time I throw the car into a turn hard enough for the seatbelt retractors to lock. It pops the message up on the cluster and sets the SRS warning lamp, then after another 5 minutes of driving or so the SRS warning lamp shuts off. Throw it into another hard corner at that point and the message and warning lamp repeats. I have a hunch when the g forces get high enough to lock the seatbelt retractors, the SRS module isn't seeing that the passenger side retractor is locking and instead reporting an open circuit because the locking switch connector is either not plugged in all the way, there's a loose pin fit, or the locking switch or mechanism itself might be bad. I'm suspecting a connector not plugged in all the way or a loose pin fit as it doesn't happen every drive.

It's also throwing a U0455 byte 00 code (invalid data received from restraints occupant classification system module) and a B1A35 byte 00 (restraints occupant classifications system module.)

Was hoping someone with an active techline connect subscription could pull the appropriate diagnosis pages from the SI for those codes and email them to me.

I'll probably take the car to the dealer for it, that way if they break any clips on the B-pillar trim getting to the retractor they can replace it on their dime... but I really would like to see the SI pages for diagnosing those codes to see what's involved.

Thanks in advance...

Well, car is going to the dealer on Tuesday. I figure I'd rather they yank the B pillar trim off to inspect the retractor, that way if they break any clips or need a new retractor they can get GM to pay for it under warranty. With my luck it would be an easy fix like a not fully seated connector on the retractor, but I'd break half the clips/tabs on the B pillar trim and have to pay for a replacement out of my own pocket... LOL

Warning message on the dash as well as the idiot light must have popped up at least 10 times today, so the issue is getting worse. It's annoying, because every time it pops up it makes a chime and you have to acknowledge the warning message on the dash with the steering wheel button to clear it.

Well, took it to the dealer. Pin fits and harnesses all checked out, it appears to be a bad retractor assembly. They've got a new one on order from Michigan, should be here in 10 days or so.

The new midrange speaker for the driver's door showed up yesterday, I'll swap that myself tonight and hopefully that fixes the buzzing. If not, it's probably a pin fit, harness, or amp issue, in which case the dealer can fix that too.

Yay for covid-era cars and their related supply chain and start/stop the assembly line for parts shortage woes... I knew that would be a risk when buying this car.
