Because of boneheaded driving on my part, I ruined the two left DWSs. It's a 1SF car, so they're staggered.

There are only a few tires which come in matching pairs in the 17" size the STS uses for the staggered wheels, so I decided, because Conti isn't making those yet, to run with 245/45/17s all around.

I'll let you know know they feel. I expect they'll be better than the DWSs, which, for me, were the perfect tire for this car. Pearl, my STS, should be back on the road next week. Waiting on a part from North Dakota.

I'm in need of new tires too, I have the 18" wheel package, also staggered. Going to run 235/50/18 all around so I can rotate. Probably going with Continental Purecontact.

I just put on the 255/45ZR18 103Y XL. The extra load model adds a bit more sidewall than I expected, but the Conti is still a nicely compliant tire, absorbing the bumps even better than the 235/50R18 97W they replaced.

I've had these for a few weeks, now, and I like 'em!

More grip, just as comfy & quiet, but being it's summer, I have no idea how good performance in the wet is.

As an update, I'll be having the continental purecontact 235-50-18 put on my car tomorrow. Can update with impressions about them if anyone wants. Winter is coming, hope they're good!

Boat, what made you decide to use 235/50/18 all around? I like the idea of rotating but having trouble deciding which size to go with...

Honestly. Just cheaper. Looking at the side of the car, the 235-50 fronts look the same overall as the 255-45 rears. The smaller width should also do better in winter. I don't corner this car hard so I didn't feel the extra expense of 255-45 was worth it. They also don't make the tire I picked out in the rear size.

Rotating the tires adds significant life to the tires. So that makes the decision between the 255/45R18 & 235/50R18; it's only 3/4" of tread, anyway. When I decided on the 235/50R18's, one reason was the hope they would be the more quiet option.

My AWD has a greater tendency to wear the outside shoulder of the front tires for some reason. The alignment is good; checked several times & never been off. I got well past the warranted wear before putting on a set of the DWS 255/45R18-XL, opting for the most possible rubber on the road this time.

The new set may be a bit noisier, but stickey!

First day of driving with the Conti PureContacts (coming from bfgoodrich g-force sport comp2's):

1. Much more comfy ride. Feels more like a Cadillac, yet still planted.

2. Maybe slight noise reduction? I didn't really notice much noise with the BFG's.

3. Didn't do any hard cornering but I'd definitely suspect a little loss in that aspect.

4. Vibration over 70mph! Hope the dealer just messed up on the balancing, or maybe it's an axle. We shall see soon, getting in touch with the service guy today.

5. They look good on the car, proportion is good. No stretch of the sidewall which I was worried about.

I'll ask what type of machine they're using. I'd suspect a good one, it's a large Cadillac Buick dealership.

You'd be surprised how many shops still spin balance tires when they all know the Hunter does a better job.

They must have used a non-road force balancer originally. I took it back and they used a road force balancer and found that TWO of the tires were out of round! Crazy. Two more on the way, under warranty of course.

Got the new tires on. Seems to be good now, however... They dropped the pressure from 34 to 30psi. Factory sticker recommends 30psi, which in my opinion seems low, won't the tires wear faster? What psi do you guys run?

I ran my DWS 235/50R18's @ 30 front & 29 rear when empty; still 'playing' with the DWS 255/45R18 XL's. 31 all around right now.

Looking to replace two rear tires on my 06 STS V8. Currently have Pirelli PZeros - which are absolutely horrible on any kind of wet pavement. And in Seattle we have plenty of that :)

Looking to get the Conti Extreme Contact DWS as a replacement - Opinions on the Conti DWS ? Any other tires you would recommend for wet winters - not a lot of snow in these parts..

Thanks in advance !
