want a gps in my car, don't want to get into a double din install. i don't want power wires visible or an ugly suction cup on my windshield.

saw this article for adding power to center console:
http://cadillacfaq.com/faq/answers/stackpower/index.html

garmin makes a hardwire cable http://www.amazon.com/GA-NHWC-Garmin-Hardwire-Mini-USB-connector/dp/B002ALTKBM

so just splice that in using the FAQ with that cable setup. maybe fish the cable through footwell up the A pillar or up into the center console to the top of it.

http://www.ram-mount.com makes a mount that cleanly attaches to the rearview mirror, but it doesn't work with the onstar mirrors.

has anyone found a spot where a GPS can be mounted without butchering the dash?

my thoughts were either the driver side A pillar or the way the center console top air vent section has a gap between the faceplate that pops off and the top of the center console makes me think i could fab something up to mount around there.

just thought id see if anyone successfully did something this already.

if you dont use your ashtray you can cut it out and make the GPS fit in there, thats my plain as soon as i find a spare. except im going to use SM in there not GPS... my gps has been on the windshield for years, and its fine there...i know i shouldnt leave it on there when im parked but i think ive only taken it off a handfull of times like when im at a leafs game or something like that.
i have a garmin and if you fully charge it it can run a few hours on its battery life, so you wont see the wires hanging around, but hiding them wouldnt be that hard.

I honestly prefer having the GPS on the window. its easier and faster to look at than having it down low in the dash somewhere. I might make a solid mount to permanently fix it to the top of the dashboard right where the windsheild meets the dash though. I have considered doing that but i didn't really want to take up the dash at all to try to get power to it.

Another thing I don't like about permanently fixing it is that if i go in a friends car on a trip or something I can't take it with me. On long trips i usually take 2 GPS units in case one dies. Or if i'm going into the city because the GPS connections in cities usually suck lol.
