My 2014 SRX has 50K miles and is 5 years old. Thought it was time to change the coolant. Noticed that there is no access to the lower radiator drain without
removing the lower valance cover. Am I missing anything? Has any other member performed this task and can advise?

Draining Procedure
Warning: With a pressurized cooling system, the coolant temperature in the radiator can be considerably higher than the boiling point of the solution at atmospheric pressure. Removal of the surge tank cap, while the cooling system is hot and under high pressure, causes the solution to boil instantaneously with explosive force. This will cause the solution to spew out over the engine, the fenders, and the person removing the cap. Serious bodily injury may result.

1. Remove the coolant pressure cap.
2. Raise and support the vehicle. Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle.
3. Place a drain pan under the drain cock.
4. Loosen the radiator drain cock. Radiator Drain Cock Replacement
5. 
   
6. Drain the cooling system.
7. Tighten the radiator drain cock. Radiator Drain Cock Replacement
8. Lower the vehicle.
9. Inspect the coolant.
10. Follow the appropriate procedure based on the condition of the coolant.
    • Normal in appearance—Follow the filling procedure.

I have a lower cover that needs to be removed to get to the drain cock. As I asked in my original posting did you have to remove that of is there another way to get to the drain cock?

I didn't do it, my technician did, but, if you can't see the radiator drain from underneath like in the picture, then yes, you have to remove the cover. Look for some push pins or small screws around the outer edges of the cover. It should be pretty simple.

Where you will have a problem, if you are not a tech, is getting the cooling system completely full, without air bubbles. That's why the illustration that I provided lists a couple of special tools to help you with that. Otherwise, it cold take a couple of days of hot/cold cycles to get it done right.

I have done them before in my 08 Z06 corvette but was wondering if there was a trick so I did not have to remove the lower cover. It is screwed in and just a pain in the fanny to remove. You would think that they would have left an access point to get to the drain.
