Hi guys,

Someone broke the hood ornament on my grandfather's 2000 DeVille and paying $65 for a new one from the dealer is not appealing. I also borrowed the car and will be returning it Friday, so I need one ASAP, and ebay has nothing for a 2000...any ideas?

Thanks,
Jeremy

Dude,

What happen??

Why are there shoe prints on your hood?

Was it a 4 year old vandal wearing dad's shoes?

read "vandalism disaster"

Check out local junk yards or ebay.

I would shave off the wreaths, and leave the cadillac emblem. tell' em that's the way it was.

sorry to see that

Well, basically I parked the car saturday afternoon, and when I went back on sunday, I noticed that my magnetic CB antenna (I use a CB on long roadtrips like from school home) wasnt on the trunk...I assumed that maybe i put it in the trunk as I often do....

As I got to the drivers side of the car, I discovered it hanging there, witht he whip part missing, which i found 15 or so feet away run over several times, but it probably still works, and wasn't hugely expensive anyways.

I get in and start driving and I noticed the hood ornament broken, so i stopped and looked and saw the footprints but didnt see any other damage....then when i got to my destination and looked (different lighting) I saw this:

What seems to be an 8" diameter dent in the hood from where someone was apparently standing.

So I'm pretty pissed, I'm hoping it can simply be pulled out, but we'll see.

someone pushed against the hood while trying to rip the ornament out.....jeez i woulda thought a hood ornament would come out before that much damage could be done.....sorry to hear/see it.

Quickest would be drive by your local junk yard.
65 for the ornament isnt cheap but I thought it would even cost more than that.
If time is a factor, you can just buy it. Otherwise call junkyards or scope out ebay....eitherway, the hassle may not save you more than half a tank of gas money...

It looks like from the pictures a paintless dent repair outfit like Dentpro would be able to take that out no problem and after that have the paint buffed out. My uncle had a Cougar that was hail damaged and had the dent repair done and you could never tell.

Yea that's what I'm hoping for, however I work for one of the top Chicago body shops durring the summer (not in the body department), I called the owner today and described it, he says he thinks because it's 8" in diameter regardless of how bad it is, that it's jacked...but i will bring it by for him to look at in person....the other issue is that there are 2 layers of metal to the construction of the hood so you cant get to the top (dented) layer from below...

I'd be checking the soles of the shoes of every punk in a 5 mile radius. If I found a match I'd beat him to death with his shoe. But that's just me.

I don't know if it changes anything, but the hoods on the 2000+ Devilles are aluminum. I don't know if it makes them any harder or easier to repair. Just thought I'd mention it.

That's a good point Jim,

I am guessing it would make it harder to repair because unlike steel, if you tried to use a dent-king type device since aluminum is a softer metal, it may make the dent worse.

Also if you tried to get it out bu striking it from below somehow, it may damage easier.

I'll keep you guys posted

Oh, and I'm in college so that's about 25,000 undergrad soles alone!
