I was there with an E450 RV. Not applicable for the “Going to the Sun road” but good to sleep in.

The area around Avalanche Lake is among the most beautiful landscape I have seen.

Envy you - been there 3 times?

No, many times, 4 times on the Hayabusa, 3-4 on my 82 CBX, once on my 79 CBX, once on my 93 Suzuki 1400 and a couple times in my cars. Love that area!

Take a good radar detector. It’ll save you $$$. From the SF Bay Area I drove the Vette to the Grand Canyon, and up to 11,000’+ at Pikes Peak, ice in the corners any higher so the top was closed, and then up thru Montana and back down across Idaho via the Lolo Pass then Crater Lake OR and finally down the OR and CA coastline. From sea level to two miles high and back, with all that goes between. When I bought my Caddy in Wichita Falls TX I drove home via Glacier NP in NW Montana. Helluva test drive. Drive/ride em if ya got em!

I was astonished how many tourists were there when we visited July 2018. After driving for days through Montana you wouldn’t expect this kind of activity.

Talked to a family from Boston. They said they wanted to see the glaciers before they melt. Fair enough point given the name...

I think we waited for an hour to get the bus up to the pass.

Would love to hike some more there (and in Yellowstone).

I said it before. I rarely see places on my trips around where I would like to live. But your area - definitely...

I’ve used a Valentine One forever and it’s saved me thousands over the years on my bikes and my cars. Their website sz they’re temporarily out of stock but they’re available elsewhere. Just one and a half tickets pays for one. Ka band is the one used by most highway patrol, laser too but not nearly as frequent (they have to be stopped to use it) K band is used by some city and county cops but in CA, K band is mostly used by those stationary (you’re speed is) trailers. X band is not used by cops and is muted on good detectors. The V1 is especially useful as it tells you if the hit is in front or behind you.

Was looking at that or the Escort Max360. They also have arrows, because apparently Valentine let the patent expire on them or something.

The warning range is what sold me on the V1. Sometimes it’s 2-3 miles and even around corners it warns early. I also appreciate that most cops have their units on all the time instead of on/off when they see traffic approaching. It’s great to get a warning w/o seeing any police and then a couple miles later, seeing someone else pulled over. IMO I don’t drive or ride recklessly but out in the open I do speed, sometimes well above the limit. To do this and still have a license (and insurance) a detector is necessary. They should come as standard equipment or at least be an option. :)

I have a Max360 with the car specific mirror bracket and mirror tap. Nice setup, and isn't as encroaching as the V1. The ability to temporarily swap to another car by using the supplied siction cup is a plus.

Range hasnt been a concern, other than laser. When laser warning sounds, time is def of the essence.

My only real complaint, it hits on other cars blind spot warnings. There's prob an update for it, since we've had the detector for a few years, but I haven't bothered with it.

I'm pleased with the Max, and all that it has done for me.

Encroaching? My V1 has the latest updates that eliminates all the useless and noisy hits. All I have to do is send my serial number in and they tell me if an update is available. When my original unit needed an upgrade it wasn’t capable so they sent me a new unit for just the cost of the upgrade, about $75 as I recall. Some semi trucks and large RVs may ‘hit’ occasionally but they go away quickly.

now, you boys wouldn't be talking about breaking the law, would you? I'm sure you're just wanting to make sure the LEO's equipment is working properly. My favorite mountain road experience was driving across the trail ridge road in Colorado in June. The road was open but snow banks on either side were 8-10 feet high. Came down the western side and stayed in a Grand Junction b&b overlooking the lake and mountains. Have always wanted to do that on two wheels.

Oh no, I'm definitely talking about breaking the law.

No victim, no crime. :)

I will have to do some more research on these things.

I don't doubt for a second that V1 is a very effective machine, I considered it for my application.

I only said encroaching because I was thinking they have antennas and a remote display..??

Nope, just the lower unit, about 4x5x1”.I use a ten LED display on top as pictured here on one of my bikes. I used to wear ear buds but quickly tired of those. Inside my car the V1 lights up just fine (and) I can hear it but in bright daylight I use the LEDs. In the car it sits just above the dash on sucker cups. On the Hayabusa it sits on a stem stand in the center of the bars.
