I'm getting ready to make this thing road worthy again for my wife. Has a pretty rapid coolant leak coming from the poorly indicated part. It is behind the engine and up against the firewall.

It's heater core bypass valve, common failure for Catera. Around 25$
When replacing, highly suggest you to remove air plenum, much easier to replace. And change coolant also. Will prevent some troubles in the future.

Yes, it's the HCV and since it tends to go bad every few years, I did a mod on my 1998 and 2001 and made it easier to access when needed to replace without draining coolant, and had posted it in the forum.

If you have to replace the HCV after the mod, then all you have to do is to get some vise grips or some kind of locking tool to clamp the 3 hoses as close to the HCV and swap it out.
