Hi. As a not so proud new owner of an 04 SRX I am here seeking help. After web surfing about the issues that my SRX is having I'm becoming more and more concerned about the "good deal" I got. The brake pedal goes to the floor, abs isn't working, with a message to service the brake assist, another message to service stabil tracking, cruise control isn't working, and leaking power steering fluid. Other than that it looks great!

Will you be doing the labor, or paying to have it repaired?
Easy to spend $1000-$3000 on SRX repairs, the $1k is a DIY effort.
Not great, considering they are selling @ $1k-$4k

Safety first,,,so brake work. A good inspection of what/where things are condition wise, sounds like they need a good bleed anyway, always a good idea, people don't do this very often as routine maint. A DIY complete flush is money well spent

V6 or V8? AWDrive? Sunroof/DVD/Nav options? For me personally, this stuff matters if I am going to spend time and cash bringing it back to its glory days.

Wow that sounds a lot like my 07 SRX I bought in July.

ABS, Stabilitrak, brake assist, and cruise control will all throw warnings if one of the wheel speed sensors is unplugged, the sensor (in the wheel bearing) is bad, or the wiring harness is damaged. I'd pull the wheels off one at a time (which you'll need to do for brake bleeding anyway) and inspect each wheel speed sensor connection. Chances are that's the problem.

As far as the brakes going to the floor, I'd top off the reservoir, start by bench bleeding the master (no need to take it off, just get a kit and pull the lines off to bleed), then bleed at each wheel. Right rear, left front, left rear, right front is the order.

I'm beginning to think they ALL sound like that, maybe that is part of the 'good deal' deal.
$2000-$4000 would go fast at the Cadillac Store. So some good deals are out there.

I'm ok with it, it's kind of a unique beast, 320hp SUV non-truck/frame-AWD domestic.
With a bunch of gizmos. o_O

Yeah, I paid 2200 for mine, 138k on the clock but under 50k on the engine. Had to flatbed it home, the brakes were so bad even I didn't feel like risking driving it here.

Before you go through the bleeding, look for line leaks. You will want to get the car up in the air or look for puddles underneath after filling the reservoir and pumping a bunch of times.

I feel like this could be a bad hard line, and not just air in the system. I've had and been through both recently.

Be careful driving/testing. Having to stop a car with the ebrake is no fun.

Whats up with the SRX's, never heard/had so much hub/brake/bulbs/wiring/leaks 'n crap on a $50k+ original MSRP unit. Someone had mine apart so much they quit putting the splashshield/inner fenders back on. Guess what ain't around much?
Diehard DIY SRXers need to have a junkyard nearby, problem is, not many there,,,
Yet.
I feel like a buzzard pickin' the bones clean.

I'm sure the guy got tired of taking his rig apart every year to replace the darn DRLs although if you're in a place where it rains or snows it's not good to have all that schmutz spraying around.

Anyone who has had to pay dealer or professional mechanic rates to do these constant repairs will probably be buying a Lexus next time...that's why a 10 year old Lexus is usually two or three times the price of a comparable Caddy. For guys like us who work for "free" and don't mind the hassle of the down time, it's not a bad rig IMHO when you buy at the depreciated prices.

Roger that. Can you advise as to where the blinker fluid filler is located?
I got mine from kaleco auto along with fresh fluid. Also got a sweet O pipe!

I have had an 07 SRX4 since late 2014. It does eat wheel bearing and brakes under normal driving. Mine has nearly 200k miles and uses oil but that is it. I found a scanner that I love the OBDlink MX+ works with the iphone or android. It can tell you which ABS sensor is the problem. It was about $80. Well worth it. So the "abs isn't working, with a message to service the brake assist, another message to service stabil tracking, cruise control isn't working" issues can be almost rolled into 1 wheel sensor believe it or not. Certainly address the leaks first. Brake pedal going to the floor has to be pissing fluid out somewhere.

My brake lines went where they secure to the frame, ha d to replace front and rear lines about 85k, damn road salt. Mine leaks PS fluid slowly I replaced the factory hose clamps, check it again when my son brings it back from school this weekend. Been a fantastic car though, great in the snow, about 95k on the 04 now.

I had similar brake trouble a year ago on my '04 V6 at 90k miles. Turned out that one of the brake lines was shot (likely due to road salt goodness, as previously mentioned), so I wound up replacing all of them (before they too ruptured...which they surely would have eventually). I still need to replace the PS hose clamps, as I also have a slow leak there as well.
