On vacation over the holidays in FL and picked up a ticket on I-4.......89mph in a 65 zone. First letter to arrive was from the Ticket Clinic, good reviews online so I sent them my $99. Got this letter last week. Adjudication withheld, no points, etc. Unfortunately I've gotten about 6 of these in the last 4 years and they've all gone away for a fee. Best news is I qualify for safe driver on my car insurance and don't want to lose that. Currently have a 65mph in a 45 zone going through the courts here locally. My driving record looks clean for the last 10 years so that one should go away as well.

Lesson #1 - Don't speed.

Lesson #2 - Who are you kidding? You know you're going to speed, just don't pay the ticket. ALWAYS get a lawyer.

Glad this one worked out for you. Could have used this service myself a few times over the years. I looked up Ticket Clinic online, and like you, found some good reviews and some not so good reviews. Apparently there is a whole industry of lawyers/law firms who specialize in handling simple speeding tickets and other not so serious traffic violations. No doubt these lawyers provide a useful service, especially when making a court appearance is inconvenient.

Don't know that you'd have the same luck in VA. VA hates it's residents when they speed. I got a lot when I lived there and never had any luck, lawyer or no lawyer. Moved to NC and got a ticket visiting my son in Richmond. Lawyer made it go away.

You are 100% right. That's why I always say VA troopers do not play. Even the local police are pretty anal about small things like front plates, to my dismay. A lawyer who could get tickets reduced or dismissed here would be a millionaire in no time LOL!

I have always been able to get a ticket reduced in VA, by showing up for the scheduled appearance an hour or two early, and meeting with the county prosecutor beforehand. More times than I want to admit.

Once I got an excessive speeder (87 in a 55 on the beltway) so I hired a lawyer since it is a misdemeanor. He got it reduced to a 6 point violation. Once I was wrongly ticketed in Westmoreland county so I fought it and testified that I was not speeding and that I was being passed by a similar looking car. That didn't fly and I was found guilty...but it was "just" a four pointer.

Virginia remains the only state where radar detectors are banned.....*&^%$!

Pretty soon, speeding will be a thing of the past. So enjoy it while you still can ;-)

This ain't new technology. I've had my own speed restrictor riding shotgun for 30 years!

My fear is that sooner or later, ETS (EZ-Pass, for example) data will be used to simply have ticket mailed to the account holders. The data can't be used to prove that you weren't speeding (in case you stopped somewhere), but if your transponder covers 80 miles of road in 60 minutes (time from the first scan to the last), then there is a good argument that the vehicle was traveling an average of 80mph.

Lots of procedural and constitutional loopholes in that argument, I suppose, but no different than speed cameras......
I believe this is something they are discussing in the U.K..

Hard to believe that Ford would invest in eliminate speeding tickets. I think some towns rely on the revenue, even if the speeding ticket is reduced to "non moving violation". It's money coming in. There is a county highway near my house where every once in a while the squads line up and pick off speeders one after another. I can only imagine the shot in the arm this gives the accounting office.

Here in Florida a town just had its police force disbanded because it was well known to be a speeding trap, even by AAA standards. The State came in and shut them down.

I have had 2 local tickets dismissed, one was pretty serious, 25 over. The lesser one (10 over) I called the prosecutor's office to request a continuance since I couldn't be there for the court date. He called me back and offered to dismiss for court costs. No points. The serious one I paid an attorney downtown $50 to handle it. He's across the street from the court and he got it dismissed pending a 4 hr driver safety course and no points. I got a third, a red light ticket issued by an actual officer on a yellow light that I ran. Guy in a Mercedes was riding my ass and would've rear ended me so I ran it on yellow. Officer didn't care and literally said, "Running a yellow is the same as running a red". My read of TN code says that's a lie, but I was advised by a friend that works for the City to just pay the fine because 'no one has ever won a red light ticket'. Turns out they had recently upped the points for red light violations and it was the equivalent of a 16-25 over speeding citation.

News to me. I googled it and all I found was that certain states are starting to suspend users who speed through the toll islands. Just last week "a friend" made it down route 95 and Jersey Tpke from NY to VA at an average speed of close to 80.....(off hours) with no repercussions. Then again, no tolls in VA, "his" home state. I will search more....because if true then this effects "my friend."

We got pulled over in my buddy's brand new m3 yesterday. 88 in a "65". Ca 14 north. And he threw in a provisional ticket. He didn't say that he got us on radar, So he's going to fight it with lawyer. I promise you if we weren't in a brand new "German M3" and In his Camaro ss he wouldn't have even looked at us. It was pitch black and everyone was moving at the same speed and he pulled us. This is why I hate chp.

I think your mistaken. Camaro's are quite a favorite of police all across this great country of ours. It's not the car type though; it's the behavior of the driver. 20 mph over the posted limit is begging for a ticket (no matter what the "flow of traffic" is doing). I was ticketed plenty in my Camaro (as a young man). Sounds like your buddy needs to take responsibility for his actions. I still speed frequently, but when I get pulled over, I know I did something wrong to be pulled over, I am respectful, a little regretful :), I know that at no point was my speeding/driving aggressive or endangering to the drivers around me. With these things in place you can catch a lot of breaks with the police. At 20 mph over the posted limit though... All bets are off. Expect a ticket (at least).

Close. The State investigated the ticket quota scandal but the Town Council disbanded the department and requested Alachua County start policing the area. What a circus that place was.

Did he write you for 88 and impeding traffic?

Were you Lane Squatting in the fast lane going 88 and pissing everybody off?

88 on the 14 is rude, move right.

It very rarely is.

----------

First off, many officers don't use proper procedure.

Second, just like any court procedure, you have the right for a hearing. I don't expect anyone actually guilty of anything to ignore everything and say they want full punishment.

Third, the constant plight for traffic safety and creation of limits and enforcement is NEVER with safety in mind but arbitrary limits. An artificially low speed limit or short yellow duration is simply for revenue. You may say just do what your told. But when the entire system is for revenue?

In MA, the highest speed we have is 65mph. Most 55mph highways, I'll do 65-68 with client in car. If it's 65, I'll do 72-74. When I go to NH and it's 70, I'll do 74-76. And that generally matches the average of those around me.

Speeds are supposed to be set at the 85th percentile of what normal traffic does. That never happens. Let people police themselves and traffic is safer. But that limits revenue. Many claim if you raise the limit, people will continue to break the limit by the same amount. Nature says otherwise.

Notice how people who tailgate or drive dangerously are rarely caught? That's because it takes a lot to measure that sort of stupidity. But, aiming a radar/laser gun is so nice. It gives a number. Compare that to a sign and BOOM! Easy revenue...
