can I change the amplifier on 2001 Deville without having issues w the theft lock system?

the radio lites up normally when u turn the key on and the stereo for about 15 seconds then shuts off, clock stays on and cd accepts and ejects normally. Im guessing its the amplifier as the trunk has a leak

You mean change it as replace it with another or put a aftermarket one in? I changed the head unit in my car with no issues but I did not change the amp. I don't think you will have a problem. Look at this.

YES - the amplifier is NOT part of the TheftLoc system -
BUT -
the replacement amp MUST be IDENTICAL to your original one -
meaning the IDENTICAL part number -

the electronics were changed starting with the 2002 model year -
so you must find an amp from a 2000 or 2001 Deville

Rumaging thru inventory, I have two '01s, BUT they look different.
One has a large finned heatsink on top with two connectors.
The other has NO heatsink, and three connectors.
One's out of a Deville (code C), and the other's out of a Seville (code K)
I can't believe cadillac would use different amps in different models of the same year

Interesting.
The one with the heatsink says BOSE; the other one just says 'audio amplifier', with a model and serial I can't read (poor lighting)...but it SURE looks factory.
I thought all power amps in caddy's were BOSE.

BOSE was only STANDARD on the STS model Seville - DHS and DTS model Deville -

a non-BOSE was STANDARD on the SLS and base model Deville - and BOSE was an OPTION -

replace it w another factory unit

did u replace the head with another used factory unit without issues w the theftlock system? my understanding is that they r programed to work only in the original vehicle and theres no way to reprogram or unlock it for another car

They're Theftlock head units in 2001. Another 00 or 01 head unit will have to be reprogramed. U-Tube has a number of tutorials, but I've never been able to get any to work.
A Tech2 scanner can reprogram another head unit, so I'm told.

well Im gonna try a used amp first but not confident thats the problem. is it possible for the head 2 lose its theftlock connection? the same day it failed the drivers door module died but started working again. with the amp unplugged it does the same thing. Im 1300 miles from home and its a long ride w no tunes. going 2 the boneyard now,will let u know the outcome

the TheftLoc system is built into the head unit -

the very first time the brand new radio was turned on -
it searched for - and recorded the VIN number of the vehicle -

from that time on -
each and every time the radio is turned on/powered up -
it checks the VIN of the car - and compares that with the stored Vin -

if they match - the radio plays -
if they do NOT match - the radio is locked -

the ONLY way to erase/clear an original VIN - and unlock a locked HU is to use the TECH2 scan tool -

SOME salvage yards have the TECH2 scan tool -
and will clear the VIN from a HU before they remove it from the original vehicle -
this works!
you can install this "cleared unit" into a different vehicle
and the first time it is turned on - it will search for the current VIN and store it -

I found an amp at the boneyard in Daytona, took out 3 seats b4 finding the same 1, SUCCESS!! it worx! now when I get back 2 Mass I have 2 put an engine in my 04 and get rid of this oil burner. Thanx 4 all the info
