Heated windshields where optional for a few years. They draw a lot of current so it has a larger alternator. If you have one, you should have a switch to turn it on somewhere. Check your owners manual.

My 92 eldo. has the heated windshield switch right on the center consule
right beside the heated seat controls, very obvious.
RANGER, I researched about the alternator,it actually doesn't have a larger amp. alternator, it has an independant built in charger (within alt.) just for the heated windshield, the alternatot with h/w should have a 3 rd. wire coming out of alt.
Interesting. I knew they where different. Thought they had higher AMP output. Built in charger? What's that?

Theres about 10 alts. on rock auto, they are all 140 amp.,some are marked for h/w and some are not.I cant remember exactly the design of the alt.
for h/w, but I do remember there being a separate power supply for h/w built into alt.,hence the third wire coming out of alt.
I havent even really looked for the third wire,I guess I could compare my 97 sts to my 92 eldo. I shouldnt have used the term charger, but I distinctly remember it having a power source just for the h/w. built right into the alt.
