1996 Accord. Pulled the battery cable to reset the computer to get rid of the check engine light which is for a speed sensor.

Now, battery is hooked back up, I open the door and it beeps at me a bunch and turns the emergency flashers on but it won't start. What the hell kind of fancy damn piss me off security system did I activate? And how do I get rid of it?

FWIW, I just fixed that check engine light for the speed sensor on a 1996 accord.

I pulled out the speed sensor (PITA), took the entire thing apart, put it back together, put it back in the car, and....

VOILA! Fixed. :alright: :highfive:

Where IS it? Wheel or tranny?

It seems to stay off for a week or so at a time if I unplug the computer or unhook the battery. Not back on, as of yet.

Ha...she runs GREAT, passed California SMOG crap laws with flying colors and gets 30 mpg. Only issue I've ever had is the passenger side rear window fell off track a few weeks ago. Yesterday I jammed it in the up position and stuck a board in the door. No longer goes down, but I can lock it up again.

Post-8 months ago, I can't exactly afford to get into a new vehicle anytime soon, so I'm thinking I'll run this little SOB into the ground. Good thing about a turd is you don't care if you scratch, dent, ding or jump on the roof of it.

One of these days I'll have a real truck again!

Oh yea...the check engine light has not come back on again in the last many thousands of miles, so apparently it was a fluke.

Haha. We had a customer car come into school a few months ago with the complaint the left rear window did not go down. He had bought the car a little over a year prior and it had never worked. We took the door panel off and discovered a block of wood bolted to the door frame and the regulator was completely gone. Problem solved!

Sorry dude, I haven't checked this thread in a month, but it looks like you're OK now.

The speed sensor is on top of the trans directly under the throttle body. If you disconnect the intake tube you can just get a swivel socket with a long long extension onto the bolts holding in the sensor.

The sensor is black, has a plug going into the top of it vertically, and it is shaped like a triangle. If you were still having issues I would snap a picture for you, but you seem to be in the clear.

Ya, it hasn't come back on since I swore at it, a lot. I've put about 6,000 miles on it since then with no issues. I'm happy with this 'ol $400 car that hasn't broken in over a year. :)
