All four rear bulbs stay on constantly when I turn the lights on... The blinkers work fine, but the brake lights never go off. And I can take the car out of park without pressing the brake... How do I fix this problem?
That sounds like a brake switch. Should be underneath the brake pedal. I think last time I looked down there it was in a white casing. Fairly cheap part and easy diy. Some how the switch must have failed in the on position.
Either failed in the on position. Or some how it got too close to the brake pedel. Befor you go out and buying the part, take it out with it plugged in and see if the lights turn off. If so then just put it back and adjust it so it won't be so close. You'll see that the shaft has ribs on it for this adjustment.
Re: All brake lights stay on, & goes in gear without pressing the brake
Good copy, guys...
I disconnected both switches attached to the brake assembly just to make sure that I disconnected the right one. (1) All 4 bulbs continued to illuminate on both the left and right rear brake light assembly. (2) The auto shifter still goes from "P" to "R" or "D" without pressing the brake pedal when the key is turned to the run position. However, the release button on the shifter cannot be depressed if the key is in the off or aux position.
Question are all 4 bulbs supposed to light within the brake light assembly when the park/head lights are on??? If so, should they get brighter once the pedal is pressed? This is a tough one!
I believe the top two gets brighter with headlights on and brake pressed. The bottom two are always on with head lights and do not get brighter with brake pressed.
